I live in Scottsdale. I was, of course, interested in the story right off. The newscaster on Channel 12 called the guy a "masseuse" at Massage Envy on the 9PM news; later changing it to "Massage therapist". The guy who owns that particular Massage Envy asks that they be sure to say that he was an Independent Massage Therapist, or an Independent Contractor. Thing is, that the term does not imply anything other than the way their therapists are paid (or underpaid, as we all know). Its terrible news for the profession, moreso for their franchise:  I'm sure there are people out there who will associate the name of that business with 'sexual assault charges'. As my friend jdcan says... Karma?  Gonna get you! On the local news the guy's neighbors & friends all say he's such a great family man & how shocked they are. With so many different people pressing charges, its hard to give him the benefit of the doubt, BUT... wouldn't it be terrible if this guy goes through the wringer & he didn't do anything wrong?Sad.Jill/Sagetherapist

Massage Envy

I just got an angry e:mail from someone who read our posts & obviously found my e:mail on the profiles page.I'll sumarize since its not nice to quote without permission.They are both a member of Massage Envy & a freelance MT. They have been to 8 of the franchises & had all good experiences. They think its upsetting that we ignorantly judge what we don't know.They did straighten me out about how you can use your unredeemed club massages even after your membership expires.So....If "cat" is still visiting & reading, etc... please note that this is our place to voice our opinions. They may not all be like yours. Some here have actually gone to a Massage Envy Studio & not liked their experiences. Some take issue with the low rate of pay that the biz offers MTs, thus lowering our standards. Some think its just an interesting and current events chat topic. Please join our forum & participate. Although I replied to you directly from my e:mail, you can speak freely here, and have a larger audience.I still wouldn't work for them. I have my own practice & keep the entire sum that is collected from my fees. That's my business model. By the way, I charge the same rates, except for the half-pricers. But I have occasionally done some steep discounts for certain promotions... all's fair I guess.Jill/Sagetherapist
