Why don't we all contribute jokes poking fun at our little club. if you feel obliged to belong to one... Personally I am a no club person. But if you must put me in one, you might suggest Indian. It will be a shame to have no Polack, paddy Indian, etc etc jokes!

I think a joke is a compliment.There is always a sense of sweetness about so called 'race' jokes. Because some of the traits are endearing and sweet. It is a celebration of that quaintness.

I feel the problem arises when the perspective is 'us versus them', then everything becomes ugly. It is only ever 'Us'-In all human situations.
Yes, people have their allegiance to one group or the other and that is quite fine. But there is really nothing to defend because there is no threat.

If there is anywhere jokes can be handled as jokes and stir a good laugh and forgotton about, it should be here, We are all professionals commited to mental, emotional health, responsible for our responses. What better place?
It is interesting to watch the progress of an idea, suggestion and how it modifies minds, opinions along the way.
(I am already searching for a funny one about Indians, and hope don't get told off!)

Surely the solution to the issue isn't to refrain from posting jokes unless we can prove to degrade/poke fun at ourselves, but instead to learn to let go and laugh and enjoy situations without any further connotations.
Polly didn't post it to create the misery and offence we find here, and it's surprising to see that even the attempts at keeping it in check have then themselves been picked on.
All this negativity and PCness....on a jokes forum of all places, lol

Thank you Goresflower, indeed I did not intend to create misery or offence if Irish jokes had not been posted in the past and plenty of them I would not have posted at all.
Lol Rachel same here, I am half Italian (Dad's side) and my Mum is from Jewish people and I'm from the rural countryside so I've heard it all over the years especially from Jews who in my experience tell the best Jewish jokes.
As for accents mine is Mancunian so truely awful and more than worthy of being taken the p*** out of, however just because I don't mind doesn't mean it's not ok for Star99 to mind. As already posted some jokes rely on the accent to be funny someone told me a Jewish joke the other day which relied on a heavy Brooklyn accent to be funny, there's no offence meant.

is it me or is there a lot of negativity on here at the moment with this thread and the one about face book. life is for living, we see so much misery in the world, I got the joke straight away and it could have been said in a Geordie accent or any working class accent(will I get shot down with that comment).

I agree Crystal Rose but I still think we are lucky here on HP, discord doesn't happen often which is surprising when you think of the volume of members and how the written word can often be misinterpreted for lots of reasons, I'm trying to think of something jolly to post to turn the mood around, don't care if I get no replies lol.

Guys, I'm really sorry that I've offended you. It honestly wasn't my intention. All I was trying to do was flag up that there are a lot of Irish jokes here and that perhaps it's time to give it a break. I was thinking of our Irish HP members. Instead, all I have done is p**s off the folk who enjoy Irish jokes. Which, evidently is everyone.

I should learn to keep my big mouth shut in future. Especially since it really has nothing to do with me, I'm Australian.

Again, I'm really sorry. I'll find a good Irish joke and post it up, so that the HP Irish jokes tradition may continue to thrive.
