When I was very young I went to Russia to see a friend of mine in Minsk. Unfortunately at the height of the cold war it was probably not a good idea to say that Andropov was dead nor to challenge the local KGB to an arm wrestling contest (and win) after drinking too much champagne and certainly singing old German Panzer songs was ill-advised.

Even now if you do these things you may find that you can stay quite long and cheaply in Russia...

555 yeah, you punch ahead. Good we're all so different. I've been to Moscow only once for business, what a depressing experience. I had already a second visa glued into my passport wasting 2 pages for an upcoming trip...luckily I got it shuffled right on time to a colleague of mine;-)

It's one of the few countries which doesn't attract me at all.

Actually last year June I was in the Boarhouse having my birthday party with some business friends. We come in Moscow for a long long time already. At least at that time it was still called the Boarhouse. Until about 1.00 am it was a nice plce with reasonable food, good music and dancing. After time usually the "ladies of the night" came in. Then you would hear them whistling in your ear: ' Hi nice guy, you want to go dance with me and then f@ck me tonight? Only US$ 300.....

Later, we did indeed go to the Hungry Duck as well and we closed off at the Buddha Bar. That one was quite nice but pretty expensive. Of course it could have changed name or ownership in the meantime. We didn't go there this year though.

Paulie, that is a nice place. Still has some old Soviet style interior. In the back they have a big garden with a kind of round-ish bar. During world cup 2006, we went there with a lot of Dutch people attending the Oil & Gas exhibition in Krasnaya Presnya, to watch the game between Netherlands and Argentina. The place was loaded. Nice place and good memories.
