Actually, it was a relief to discover the tumor, because up until then my doctors were having trouble figuring out my thyroid issues. They nuked my thyroid, allowed me to reach a hypothyroid level, and then began thyroid replacement therapy to bring me back to a euthyroid (normal) level. Normally, that's all it takes for most people. But in my case, my thyroid levels swung from the extremes of hyperthyroid to hypothyroid, remaining in a euthyroid state only very briefly each time. That's what tipped off the doctors that I might have a tumor. So I underwent an MRI scan, which revealed a small microadenoma, and I later underwent surgery to remove it.
