What's all the talk on here about that bar? I've been to Soi Eric a few times and no bar was really special...so is it just some board member owns it and you all go because you're his "mates"?

IMHO The Mai Thai Bar is not like FLB or Secrets in Pattaya.

It is more like the Cherry bar on soi 8

Nicke is a great host and he has some great girls working for him.
All the people I have met there have been great .

I haven't been there, but from what I've read here, it's the other way around. It isn't that a board member owns the bar, it's that the bar owner started this forum.

You're probably correct that none of the bars in Patong are "really special"; visit them at noon, and you'll see how dreary they look. It's the people that make a place "special", and I'm guessing that for people who chat on line, it can be a nice place to meet the people you're chatting with.

It would probably be the same "scene" if the owner of the bar had been a restaurant owner, or whatever - people would then be meeting there to chat in person.

I went most nights on my April visit and it was always a great welcome and the bar has real atmosphere.Nicke and Eade are great hosts and make you feel welcome.
Girls are great and very friendly and do not hassle you for drinks ever or didnt when i was there.They quickly know your name and you are always welcomed with a smile...plus you never had to check the bill as it was never wrong or padded...all in all a great place to meet bm's and drink beer and get a chance to test the fisherman friend shooters !! give it a go

I like MTB. A nice place with nice people, and a good place to go for a few beers when you’re far away from home and don’t knot lots of people. A little bit like Cheers, a place where everybody knows your name (at least I remember five or something ...), but without the horrific and always pregnant hostess Carla. When I think about it there’s no Norm there either. Nickie should get one! :intello:
