My Experience in Tijuana

I've been going to ZN for 10 years and I've never had a problem, but it seems like the board is getting more of this type of post in the past six months or so. Are things possibly changing?

My experience is similar to that of the previous poster. I've been going to Tijuana for years (once a week or more during the past 18 months) and very rarely have I had problems. My experience is the same as a great number of other guys on others boards; I'm at a loss to explain why some guys on this board are experiencing problems when those on other boards aren't having problems.

Here is my best guess in answer your question: This was a drug bust. The guys in handcuffs were dealers who had been caught with drugs on them. Somebody had reported a guy matching your description as having bought drugs. The report probably came from one of the guys in the car who was trying to "deal" information to the cops in exchange for a "break." In Mexico you must go before a judge (who are on duty 24 hours a day in TJ) before you can be booked into jail so the cops often wait until they have a full car before going to see a judge. It was obvious to the cops that their "star witness" wasn't a witness. They probably put you in the cop car in the hope of getting more information out of one of the guys they'd caught "red handed." They knew the judge would let you go, so when a “better bust” came along they let you go. Which is what they knew the judge would do.

It's too bad that this had to happen on your first experience. I've been there many times alone and have never had any prob. There were quite a few times where I walked by myself on Revo. at night, but not a hassle from the cops, more from the people trying to hawk some stuff. After hearing the horror stories on this board I don't think I'll be doing that anymore. Nowadays, if I do go I mainly hang out around Adelita and Chicago, no more roaming the streets for me. I have been stopped and searched once about 10 mos. ago, but only had a 5 on me so wasn't too much hassle, even kept my 5 (details in another thread).
It is a fun place with some good benefits, but the f'ed-up cops just ruins it. Too bad, as I am sure it's the Americans that really feed their economy down there. Never been to Rosarito, but been to Ensenada a few times and never had problems with cops down there, but then again the action in Ensanada is not as good as TJ. Happy hunting.

Today was my first ever trip to Tijuana. Despite all the stories I've heard about the cops, I decided to take a chance and go alone. I thought maybe those stories were rare incidents. I thought I would be alright if I went during the morning/early afternoon, walked with other people, avoid the cops, and stayed on Revolucion Ave. only.

I was walking around at about 10:00 a.m. on Revolucion Ave. when I noticed a cop car drive down the street and abruptly stop. I immediately turned around and walked into a store. This didn't stop them from coming after me. The cop walked into the store and told me to come with him. The first thing I said was "I don't have any money. Leave me alone."

We walked to the cop car and they searched me for drugs. They didn't find anything. They didn't plant anything on me. Yet they had me ride in the car anyway.

As we were riding around, they would occasionally stop and search others on the street, hand-cuff them, and throw them in the back seat. There were three of us seating in the backseat when they tried to fit another guy in with us. We couldn't all fit together. Considering the situation, they finally let me leave. I got a cab and got the fuck out of there.

So, I'm left wondering...why did they have me ride in the car in the first place? They didn't find anything on me. They didn't plant anything on me. I didn't do anything wrong. What were they planning to do with me?

Another thing: All the other guys were hand-cuffed . I was not. They were all Mexican, too. So it's not like they were just picking on Americans.

It's really too bad the cops are so fucked up. Tijuana looks like a fun place. How are the cops in Rosarito or Ensenada?
