Hey XTC, new guy here, but not new to the business
In this post you've made I noticed a few things, at least some of which are not often done. You compliment the boss well and I like your writing style because it can effectively highlight important points, but you also provide some details informing how things work (could be the same or similar elsewhere as well I suppose) and that all goes toward supporting your statement. It's done short and it's done sweet, nice.
In my opinion, in cases like these (and there's many more variations, again imo), but specifically for now in this case you describe, is it really, really, B&S when you break it all down? Not writing here about what I consider "real" B&S, that being where there's an unmistakable conscious effort to purposely deceive and manipulate a client as "the" business model. As opposed to the "appearance" and resemblance of B&S due to strategic methods used going towards success in achieving not just a business model, but in support of the MPA, maintaining quality MPA's, and sustainability overall. The end result or hope is, an ability to better service the client, not simply take his money and give him the boot never to be seen again - like most real B&S places.
An example might be: An MPA has had no customers through half the day, the two or three other girls have all had both repeat appoints made, and each at least taking in a one walk-in. All walk-in's preferring the busy girls, maybe they heard of them before, or it was looks, who knows and does not matter. The MPA without work is maybe new, the Manager see's what's going on here, the other girl's see it too, I'm thinking most times they (busy girl's) are not heartless and may become somehow involved and even might ask themselves, "why is the Manager not doing more to try and get this new MPA work?" Or more selfishly, the busy MPA's might think, "When the time comes and I need some help, I hope the Manager steps up for me, not just in these cases but anything else that might arise?" The Managers thinking, "Well, come busy time certainly the new MPA will get work, but if this keeps up, she might walk before then. At busy time, I'm faced with 5 customers every 30 minutes (they know the flow) and I have only 2 - 3 MPA's. Clients will not be happy, and then they're going elsewhere you can bet on it = less business for the 2 - 3 MPA's going forward. This all is considered in a relatively short period, it's weighed. Next customer walks in the door, says "he called last evening" to make sure (a popular MPA) was working, client like some service asap. Manager say's, "Ya well, we had some issues." "But, you're in luck, we have this new girl, really good, you should take her?" Client immediately thinks to them self, "They lied to me, this is nothing more than B&S, this is not fair, I drove all the way here, I called them, this place sucks, they have a poor attitude, they lied, they don't care about customers, they don't listen, they are purposely trying to piss me off).
Meanwhile the SPA Manager likely knows what's going on in the client's head, see's it on his face, but she can't explain really much further, and besides it would not help. Sometimes the Manager might even say, if she has the goods, "You like me?" Client, "Well ya, you're hot and super smart, likely highly skilled." Manager, "You come with me then." Client leaves, still writes a negative review on a Board. The Manager gives some or all money to the new MPA.
Do you mostly agree with this type of thinking / scenario? Am I missing something, or is something above glaringly inaccurate in your experience? I was wondering about something at this time, especially after reading your post, thought I might ask you what you think? I had prepared a real long piece on B&S, really just that topic, but it's a super long read, way longer than what I posted here, which by your standards must seem like trilogy paperback novel already. Anyway, do you think posting something like that, a super long read on this Board is needed, would be accepted or even worth while?
The TL;DR version goes like, B&S - definition(s), misconception, example, roles within (client, manager, mpa), facts, known's, behaviours, accepting responsibility, a method to not only remove B&S but prevent it.
Just 4 Renee… shes the boss… gets awkward all yer staff sitting around & boss = busy… so she shares w them…
