Some strange things though:

The first time a client told me I moved energy throughout the session, after the massage I had dark circles under/around my eyes. He didn't know if this was a good or a bad thing.

The second major occasion where I was told I moved energy, I felt very close to the client during the session and felt a LOT of compassion for him, more than usual. When I finished my last stroke on his back, he lifted his head and said "wow, energy was FLOWING through your hands this go-around."

Strange...

in both incidences, your body registered a response. the 1st, a physical manifestation; in the 2nd, an emotional manifestation.

i believe this is both a good thing and a bad thing. a good thing, in that you are geniunely trying to 'heal' your client. a bad thing, because you are receiving your client's imbalanced energy.

my accupressure instructor said that we niether give energy nor take energy from our clients to protect ourselves as therapists on a physical and emotional plane. that we should instead, focus the thought of intent: to help heal, to help bring the body into balance, to be a conduit for the healing to happen... that we do not 'heal' our clients but that we allow their bodies to heal themselves.

I love the way you put that, made it MUCH easier to understand. I guess my intent was set on healing the client rather than letting his body heal itself.

Indeed. My teacher put it this way: "Attachment to outcome is what opens the door for us to take on our client's 'stuff'."
