Newbie - IHM Dipolma

Hi all,

I am taking my first step on the ladder to train as a massage therapist.

In december, I am doing a 1 day's dipolma in IHM. This is with Gateway Training at Eastbourne.

Eventually I want to be a mobile therapist. Can anyone give me advice on how to start...can i be mobile JUST doing IHM while I learn other areas eg
Thai foot massage/Hopi ear candling/Seated chair massage/Facial Massage.... would this be enough to start a business.

Ideally I do want to do a ITEC in massage...just need to save up!!! Then I can do the full whack!! deep Tissue/hot stones etc

Any thought's comments would be appreciated

Welcome to Hp.

Wish you the best on your IHM course, eventhough 1 day isn't really enough and you will have to practice, practice, and more practice afterwards.

If you really wish to be a massage therapist, forget all these little courses (TFM, HEC etc) and go for ITEC Holistic Massage or similiar. Focus your intent and money on a proper course with Anatomy & Physiology (if you haven't done it already) and you will be financially better off because you will increase your earning capacity and then can go on to bigger things or do other massages which can be added in. Think of full body massage as a foundation course and a stepping stone.

Still, IHM is good to have especially as a mobile service with no expensive and clumsy equipment.

A ITEC is ideally what I want to acheive, the local college runs one, however its is over a year and is twice a week..this is a bit too much for me at the moment with my son and also working I would rather a shorter intence course..i have been looking at Gateway or Wilbury in Brighton, however they are expensive (1,500) so need to save up!! thats what I was hoping the IHM could give me a bit of extra money.

I want to start the ITEC by summer next year, its just a case of money.

If you have any suggestions on training centres that would be helpful.

Excellent, not sure why my pm isnt working... Trying to think where abouts in horsham...I have just come off the phone in Crawley college and they dont have any spaces left this year, so need to apply for next Sep !!

I'm sure you can do a decent massage diploma for less money than you have quoted. Shop around, for example further education colleges are generally subsidized by public money, especially if you are low earner.
