if so how much discount do you give??

I've reduced my charges for OAP's and been quite generous with it too (about half price - cos they aint got much money to spare.

I really agree with giving discounts to those who genuinelly need it- OAP's being a main concern. I dont advertise it, but if I feel that any client comes to me and really cant afford my full fee, we discuss and come to a suitable arrangement. I'd hate to think that a client missed out on a treatment just cos of money - I know its business, but, its the way I am.

I think I'll put something on my site now, about discounts for Pensioners (think OAP's is a bit patronising as a label, but that my hang up!!!)

Where I am the oap's are very wealthy and drive mercs and bmw's so no discount from me.

My oap's, like Patchouli's, are generally 'of independant means' and get very nice occupational pensions, plus the state pension. When I first started in this business, I used to charge the over 60's a fiver - then spent an hour or more listening to where their next cruise was going!!! I'm not completely heartless however, and I do have a sliding scale for those people that come to me for help - one old lady doesn't even know I charge a fee, and I've been seeing her once a month for 8 years!!!

I do 'get it back' already - I'm awash with home made jam (marmalade at the minute - Somerfield had a special on oranges!) - tray bakes - cakes etc ..... probably why I am the size of a house! All my 'oldies' generally bring a wee something for me or the family. Amazingly, recently one of my regulars died, then an envelope arrived from a local solicitor - inside was a cheque, as the old man had mentioned me in his will - I had no idea! I'm going to buy a pukka bird feeder to put outside my new clinic, as we used to talk about bird watching alot - this way I can help the birds and remember Mr M at the same time.

Jabba, that is a lovely thing to do..... I am sure Mr M will be happy watching down.

I give a discount for OAP's, I feel really happy when they get benefits from their treatments. Some of my mature clients are widows and they love having the chat a feeling good about themselves, which makes me feel good too.

I once had a lady who came to me once a month for Reiki. The month of December 2006 she came in for treatment in the first week. When the treatment finished she said she would have liked one the week between Xmas and new year but didn't think she could afford it. I said I would give her a treatment half price as a Xmas present from me (for £15).

She came 3 days after Xmas, had her treatment, then when I asked her when she wanted to book again she said it would have to be the first week in March as she was off to her holiday home (with pool) in Lanzarote on the 7th January where she would be for two month but before that was spending a week in London and going to do some "shows".

It really coloured my attitude to giving anyone a discount for a long time and she never, ever gave me anything pressie wise at Xmas unlike many of my other clients (not that I look for anything but she was just so........me, me, me that I started to not be available whenever she wanted an appointment and she finally stopped coming).

I felt bad about not seeing her but I was so incensed that she fished for discounts when she was obviously very well off and I wasn't even taking a wage for myself.

I can understand how annoying it must have been...
