Hi folks,

So I just heard about Zentherapy from Texas-gal today, and it got me interested in hearing from all of us to compile a modalities list. Not sure if there's already another thread on this...

Since my school teaches them, I consider these non-obscure:
Zen Shiatsu
Swedish
Deep Tissue
Myofascial Release
Polarity
Cranio-Sacral

So on my obscure list I'd start with
Zen Therapy
Ortho-Bionomy

Please add others, whether you consider them obscure or not, and a link if possible!

I am really glad you added this thread.I have been saving snippits of techniques for a while now and haven't had the time to hunt them all down.Just one week ago I found a page with a list about as long as my arm on different techniques, along with the websites, but have not had time to make sure the links are still correct, etc etc.So, I'll be happy to add my aquired info to this thread and hopefully we'll get even more info on what people have found.I think it would be wonderful to see this expand.  Like, list them here and then start threads on each technique as we gather into, so many links for an individual technique would then be on it's own individual thread.  It would give us a place to go and grab lots of info fast.  What do you think about that?Right now I am researching out (because someone mentioned it on another forum and I have never heard of it):  Hurley-Osborne Technique, but the most I have found is --quote per http://www.amtwp.org/Site/Sections/Information/Pages/info_moddesc.aspx :-----------------------------------------------------------------------------Hurley-Osborne Technique; is a soothing, non-force, non-invasive form of healing. Would this one be considered a modality / technique? Seems more like biomechanics instruction. I've always wondered what to call my style of biomechanics, I guess this would be it. I love practicing Tai Chi, especially when I perform massage. Sometimes I think I get more relaxation from a massage session than the client does. Now if only I can get the client to do the breathing exercises with me... (and trust me, i've tried.)

I just got back from a wonderful weekend of Pulsing at the Open Centre in London.  It's a Hawaiian-inspired modality involving rocking, and other very nurturing rhythmical bodywork, and it's left me floating through the first part of this week.  It's definitely something I'd like to incorporate into my bodywork with clients.  The rocking seemed to bring up many childhood memories for the people on the workshop, and all in all it was a very powerful experience.

I'd never heard Pulsing described as Hawaiian-inspired.  I always thought it had followed on from a part of Tragering, developed by American Dr. Trager (who happened to live in Hawaii).  Curtis Turchin subsequently gathered the various rocking techniques of  Dr. Trager's  work to make a bodywork  he called  Pulsing, way back in the '70s, but looking at the Open Centre website seems they've combined it with a lot of lomi lomi and temple style massage. That would be a beautiful combination with the flow.I've done Holistic Pulsing http://www.holistic-pulsing.com/english.html and it is incredibly relaxing, though I mainly use lomi-lomi I will throw in some Holistic Pulsing if someone is really holding somewhere.

the pulsing technique sounds awesome!  I have seen Temple lomi-lomi done and that looks great, too, even though the drape is barely more than a kleenex!  hee hee

I've had a Bowen treatment. It triggered the most profound toxic release ever. For me it was very powerful, but my kidneys were not up for the task. Took a while to get back to normal.

Oops.  Yep, this is more of a biomechanics thing... I didn't realize it at first -- I had saved the link but never really gone through it.  Thanks for pointing that out.  I was thinking about going to the class someday, but now I see, getting the video or manual would be just as good for me!    You saved me a little money Seforum.xxxg.  Thanks!
