Sorry for the confusion Intuitouch. You are right, somatics refers to the body, but it's also common use to use the word somatics as short for the wider fields of somatic movement education and therapy. These are considered modalities that use touch, images, verbal instruction, experiential anatomy and movement exploration to create new movement and alignment patterns in the nervous system. They also include the concept of how thought patterns affect perception, structure and function. I guess the use of the word in this way maybe comes from Thomas Hanna definition of soma as the body experienced from within.
