I edited my comment. I did a little research, and found out there isn't a vaccine for the common cold because the viral infection mutates so rapidly that a vaccine wouldn't be very effective.

But I'm thinking if enough people get vaccinated against Covid19, we can stop it from mutating into many different variants.

I have relatives in their 90s in LTC homes. The homes went into strict lockdown. Nobody could go into see them and they obviously weren’t going outside. The home had to construct special outside glassed rooms to visit them and then only 1 visitor at a time. These rooms were in fact a bubble. Only facility staff could go in and out of the home. They are now vaccinated but those visitation conditions still apply. When there is an outbreak in a home they go into isolation protocols quickly and don’t allow commingling, common rooms were shutdown etc. Your Darwinism theory can only be considered if everyone in a home contracted Covid at some point where some survived and others didn’t. But that is not the case and they didn’t all get Covid as the homes did what they could to prevent that. Controls, isolation protocols and vaccinations were their tools.

I agree the LTCs did what they could. But even though they went into lockdowns and didn't allow visitors people were still getting sick and dying. Now since none of the patients were going out and taking the virus back it was obvious that the only way the virus was getting into the facility was from a worker who contracted the virus outside the facility and took it in. But my original statement still stands, not all people in the home got sick and not all people in the home died, and this was during a time before they were vaccinated. So to me, it says some of the people just had an immune system that was able to reject or fight off the virus. I know one of the things they did was reduce the number of people in a room. Normally they would have 4 people in a room, once things became bad they reduced the number to only having two people in a room, which they have continued to do. The homes also stopped taking in new patients even though there are a lot of empty beds at the moment. Just last week or it might have been earlier this week the government told the homes they need to take in 500 new patients to help reduce the burden in the hospitals. This is one of the things tying up beds in hospitals is people waiting to get a bed in LTC homes.

Exactly!!! I hear both sides of the argument and they're both valid. It comes down to choice. Whether you take the vaccine or not, either way you're taking a risk. If you take it, there's always a possible side effect. If you don't, you may get it and worse, if you're relatively healthy, society will be locked down longer until there'snothing left to reopen. I want my concerts, sporting events, gyms and spas so I will take the risk of getting inoculated. But for the risk to be worth it, most people have to take the plunge. I hope they do. What more can be taken from us that already hasn't been yanked away over the past year? The vax is the last of our worries. But that's just me.

Personally I think you're making a really wise and well informed decision to vaccinate. True there are risks to getting vaccinated or not, but they are very different risks...

If you're healthy and under 70 the risks of getting seriously harmed by COVID are very low, but even so, statistically your covid risks are still massively higher than the risks from the vaccinations which are mathematically close to nil (unless you believe the vaccine program is actually a secret conspiracy to kill off most of the world's population in two years...).

When people forego the vaccine because they are convinced covid won't kill or seriously harm them, they are forgetting something very important: if you don't get vaccinated there is a very good chance you will catch covid sooner or later. And even if you are barely ill or completely asymptomatic, regardless you are now potentially spreading covid to others who are not as healthy as you are, which makes the lockdowns go on and on and on and on... but if enough people vaccinate eventually the virus will not be able to effectively spread, and we get society back.

As someone against lockdowns, even I have to ask those who share my views what exactly they propose as a solution to these restrictions? If it isn't the vax, what is it? I sure as hell cannot live the rest of my life in secrecy and defiance of every bylaw thrown my way just to spite the government. Based on conversations I've had with some of these guys, it seems like they would rather be in perpetual lockdown than take the vax. They would rather bitch about it for the rest of their lives than take the shot. Me personally, I can't live like that forever. As you pointed out, the risks are outweighed by the rewards. More have suffered from the virus and its effect on society than they have from the vax.

The LTC facilities have not had 100% of the residents get infected with coronavirus. Additionally, there are new variants so the vaccine efficacy is based on the original variant. So “re-infection” isn’t really an applicable statement.
As for a glass bubble, think of it more like a solarium and you had to talk through the glass. I had to drop off some care packages and it’s really not that bad of a setup as the guest sit outside on chairs and the seniors are wheeled into the solarium. It’s not a Thai massage parlour fishbowl.

Not sure if you’ve ever been in a seniors home but there are different types with different range in amenities and services. Some are independent living and those are like apartments with living rooms, a kitchenette, separate bedroom, maybe they even have a balcony. These will be marketed as a Seniors community. Assisted living is in the middle where some help is needed. Nursing Homes are for elderly that need a lot of help dressing, bathing, getting dressed, ec. Some residents are completely bed ridden where as others are in a wheelchair or use a walker. Few are independently mobile. The rooms are just a powered bed, dresser with tv, a chair and a bathroom. Walking the halls in these you’ll pass a few rooms where you get a whiff of someone who shat themselves.

No doubt. From an absolute perspective, the main drivers of that increase is China and India who have collectively added 1.4 billion of that almost 4 billion increase. But from a percentage basis the larger populated countries that have been increasing the most over that time period are Nigeria 271%, Pakistan 227% and Egypt 209%. What do they all have in common - predominantly Muslim nations. And between the three of them they collectively have recorded a mere 30,800 covid19 deaths. Makes you wonder.
