Yep...
I think the whole dilemma for the budding 'artiste' is that they are taught that they have to give a 'message' to everyone.
The education system, well all Systems really, teach that there has to be a Theme or a Message in all that is creative, and if the creator of something didnt know it himself, then the student has to find at least one message anyway.
The next step for Systems is to cull out anything wherein the message was not 'appropriate' or 'positive' or 'soul searching'.
The responsible Scan artiste in this case felt obliged to render some sort of message, when in fact anyone who knows these places in Thailand really knows what Van Morrison once sang very well.... "It just is."
In this light I can see Nelsons point, but maybe I to am trying to find a reason or message in his views that doesnt exist.
Living here in Patong, now for a while, I just see it as "It just is".
I dont see someone who works that street, or who consumes on that street as trying to convey anything....it just is.
The last thing I would care to do is show them as sad, empty, anything.
Bangla is something people just do for a period of time, and the Thais accept that better than any gawker or somebody skilled with a camera....
It just is.
Im pretty sure thats how my closest Thai friends see it, anyway....
