1. You DO need a Birth Certificate or Passport or Passport Card to re-enter. Though it seems they allow only with a DL sometimes, but it will involve a hassle or questioning session
2. Your passport or Pass card or Green card is scanned and entries are RECORDED, but PASSPORT IS NOT STAMPED.
Incidentally there has been some uproar about the number of years (15?) they keep the records of all border crossing. And there was a debate on CNN about it. It is possible that a spiteful spouse/lawyer can subpoena the records for Divorce litigation ! So be nice to your spouses when you cross over and back

They pass the bar code sectionof the passport through the system, something comes up on the screen then they let me through. I think it records my entries into the US. maybe if they see some pattern like too many trips it triggers another level of questions or the full body cavity search with dry rubber gloves.

Your passport won't be stamped when crossing into the US from Mexico or Canada. If you don't have a passport or passcard, then a DL or State Issued ID with BC will work...If you only have the DL you will get through but could get a lecture.

I know a few guys that got through with a DL only last weekend.

Hi, All you guys and fellow "partners in crime" ! Looks like I had taken a "hiatus" from the forum. Actually I was out of the country 10,000 miles away. Some one told me even a journey of 10,000 miles begins with a single f**k (read step)
I also got my Passport card while away, looks like a Driving Licence ! have to try it out next time, its not valid for Air travel only Land travel. TJ or Mty, here I cum !

just got my passport card. they send it to you with a protective sleeve u r supposed to put it in. They tell you it has "advanced electronics" within. Shit, they make it seem like some kind of bond007 device!!!!!

Just got back from San Diego last night and I went across for a few hours just to check it out. Managed to score a few xanax and had them in my GF's bra. Guy infront of us in line ended up getting arrested for smuggling cocaine. So we step up to the counter allready a little nervous from seeing that happen and are informed that an ID is no longer good and you need a passport or birth cert. I about shat in the floor right there, I know I was visably shaking and probaly white as a ghost. We just got a 20 second lecture about how ID's are for cops and he is a cutsoms agent. Dont do it again and welcome back to America. Thank God.

I have a US. passport. Then for convenience I though I will apply for the so called Passport Card, which I did about a month ago, The state dept accepted the application but said it will issued sometime after July. And I am supposedly on the early "bird" list. It is only for land travel across borders like Mexico or Canada. It is not for Air Travel. So it will work for the TJ border crossing by road

I have heard of someone being held for 20 minutes why he provided info that they could check to verify citizenship.

Passcards can be applied for anywhere passports are sold I believe. It is a card that is similar to a credit card in size and can be used crossing into the US from Canada, Mexico and Bermuda I believe.

What exactly is a passcard and how do you get one? Also, has anyone you know of been held or refused reentry for not have the correct documentation for crossing back into the states?

You are suppose to have a passport or a passcard or a government issued ID with a Birth Certificate(Government issued ID being a State ID like a DL or ID card).

If you only have the DL or State issued ID you should get across, but may get a lecture. Currently about 1/2 the guys crossing with only an ID are getting waved through and the other half get waved through with a small lecture.

In June of 2009 you are suppose to have the Passport or Passcard.
