Therre seemed to be a lot of thoughts on tipping and prices, etc. on another thread so I thought I'd divert those thoughts here.
I'm no marketing/economics expert but the subject has always fascinated me! It's kind of a "chicken or the egg" question. Is inflation caused by workers asking for more money or is it caused by the increasing cost of goods and services? Increased cost of goods causes workers to ask for more money to pay for goods- and so goes the vicious cycle!
My point about some guys tipping more than others is that we are and have been in a recession. I haven't had a raise in 3 years why would I give my therapist a 50% increase in her tip?
When you start regularly giving $60 instead of $40 just keep in mind you are now raising the bar for everyone! $60 becomes the new $40!
What I mostly object to is "one-upmanship"! Guys with deep pockets having to prove they are better than the other guy by throwing their money around and driving up prices!
