Did you visit Club Solo, Steve ?

I haven't been to Samui since Dec 07 , but there were always plenty of nice girls in there...

cant say i did mate.not really a niteclubber.prefer all day drinking and bars at nite

can recomend samui mate,had the best time i can recall in ages there.theres plenty of bars,and altho there is nowhere near as many girls as patong there are loads,and there are plenty of stunners.and prices a hell of a lot better.
also dont get to much hassling of sellers and the like all the time.

avoid lamai like the plague tho.piss boring and quiet,no decent birds not many bars either.

Club Solo isn't a nightclub as such, more of one huge open air bar where all the freelancers go when everywhere else closes. Was open till at least 4 am if i remember right. It used to have one of those Bucking Bronco type things in the middle of it...

Have always liked Samui, after Bangkok it was the 1st place i ever visited in Los. Will try and pay another visit next year..

Club solo open till 6-7am each time.
Lamai now has two clubs rocking at 2am - unward (The Club and Supersub) great places for picking up the FLers, Supersub being lower class and The club being a bit higher class. Shoot and miss types.

Lamai is much cheaper than chaweng with many new 4 star hotels just opening for about 1000 - 2000k range, all are GF friendly.
Older crowd at Lamai but girls are more fun, some are older, but the younger ones come out after 10pm it seems.
chaweng is no longer crowed as the econemy has affected it greatly.

++ Lamai for relaxing and having your fun at chaweng and then head back for 200 baht to lamai's quite beaches.

+ chaweng for young groups and more action, harder to get the nice ones if your the slow type that wants to look at all the menu before ordering.

Lamai is the winning in my books. right in the middle of everything, or within 10 mins.

Going to Samui for the first time in June, and to be honest lokin forward to the relaxing atmosphere that hopfully comes with it, as far as nightclubs go, i believe its open air, would you rate the green mango?? and what about BG's and FL's compared to Patong...Same Same

my 1st 4 trips were to Samui, always stayed at Lamai beach, i liked the relaxed beach lifestyle & acconmmadtion on beach & bars there, when 1st there in 1999 not too many high rise blds, & no Mcdonalds, but was there about 18 months ago, macca's in main st of Lamai now, but still the nice resort\bungalow type accommadtion with pools right on the beach at good prices, think about 1200-1500b a nite, it has a small bar area,with some nice girls & some nite clubs there as well now,
never really went out in chaweng, only just stopped there a few times during day when riding around island
will try & get there again this year 2 lamai, just a change from Patong for a week.

Green Mango, my opinion, young groups of kids mostly now.
Even the thai ladies seem to be avoiding that bar a bit now.
Too many lady boys for my liking
music has not changed in over 2 years, but if your new, it wont matter that much really. I just find green mango to be too many 20-25ish year old young punks looking for problems, and of course they find it easy.

Raggae pub, is a bit older group and more laid back with many FL's, best to arrive after 11pm as its quite till then, music various.
Solo, its the place all go after 2-3am, hit and miss each night.
Q-bar, over prived 270 baht per drinks and 300+ for other.
supersub, after 12am, great place with nice mix of westerners and thais. WARNING: thai studs dont like you trying to pick up the gals they are sitting with. use your brain.
The Club, newest bar in Lamai, actualy just before lamai, same style as The Club on kho sarn (spelling) road.

FullMoon party. worth the 1 time to see and live. 1 time was enough for this old dog, seems to be a few fights over nothing, long waits for rides on boats back home.
Halfmoon at lake view, 100b just to get into it, 20baht to park ya bike.
Not even worth the time to go there, even the thais avoid it now. Plus rainy season makes it a bore.

Thanks for the heads up.The bars you referred ,green Mango ,reggae bar are they in Chaweng.Are there many other bars in Chaweng.What are the BG like in terms of attitude - are they more easy going that their sisters in Patong? What are the BF's for ST and LT.And what is the accommodation like .I was looking at aplace called Tradewinds which seems to be pretty ok

green mango smack in the middle of chaweng,reggae a bit further out,not far.
bf about 300 on average.st/lt ranged from 500/1000 generally.

BF 300ish, ST about 500-1000 and LT 1000-1500 dependant on how clueless the mark is.
Girls attitude are pretty easy going compared to their sisters of Phuket and such. They seem to want out of the bars as soon as you BF them. They will tend to like green mango for the younger ones, and just a beach bar for the older ones. I will say one thing, there are alot of older gals that seem to have come out of retirement, could be cause younger ones are taken for 1 week at a time on Samui. Not many guys seem intrested in ST with the samui ladies. Taking them over to fullmoon for a few days or holding up in their rooms is not uncommon.
Tradewinds..... have not heard much about that place, but seems ok.
Lamai is the best area right now in my honest opinion..........

staying in Lamai, since yesterday. Went out for a walk yesterday, and to the beach today. First impression is really good. Nice place, laid back and beautiful beach.
i am with the gf so can't really comment on the quality of the ladies. Quite a few bars, though mostly empty (no comparison with Patong on that point).
on the main road there is this Irish bar with a life band from the Philipines. The 2 lady singers are 100% stunners and even sing very well (and in decent english)
Will report on my trip later or when back home.

Marc26 thanx for the tip on Lamai Wanta resort. Really good!!

Might check on Chaweng later, but once again, can't delve into the girl aspect of things (but I don't care, I am with my sweetheart, and having a top time!!). However I will look as much as I can, looky looky no buy innit :winktongue:

If you are a golfer there is only one course in Samui and it is too difficult to enjoy. Best view on the island but impossible. I prefer Phuket over Samui because of the golf and the girls.

There is in fact 3 golf courses here on Samui.

Personally, I think that both Phuket and Samui are great holiday places.
If you like places with a big town feel, Patong is for you. I you like somewhere more laid back Samui is great.
The beaches on Samui are much nicer. The water is clear and blue and they are much better for swimming. They are calm water beaches not surf beaches. I don't know if you can find surf beaches in Thailand.
I am surprised about the comment regarding the girls. There would have to be a couple of hundred BGs operating in Samui, your standards must be realy high if you can't find someone there.
It seemed to me that the girls were just as pretty as the girls in the Phuket bars but maybe you know some special places down there. I got the impression that the girls were just a bit less pushy in Samui.
Anyway, both places are certainly world class holiday destinations.
