Ha!, This was fun! I tried and tried w- no luck...so i took it to my mom and dad's yesterday...we sat outside at the patio table i swear for 2 hrs trying to solve this...lol i had my sister, mom and dad with paper and pencils racking our brains...we had A'HA! moments where we just knew we had it ...but dun...dun...dun... nope! haha
the only way we cud solve it was making it round(3-d)...but we knew that was against the rules. So, we finally decided there was not a solution lol... my dad says " you sure this is solvable...ya need to ask her(ruth) if there is a solution..b/c if there is i will keep working on it!...but if not, forget it!" so, i agree if u would have told us in the beginning there was not a solution it wouldnt have been fun! thx for hours of family fun....lol:

you cannot share lines
you can go outside the area of the boxes and stuff
you must stay in a 2D space
lines cannot go through a house or a box

to me, the same circle connecting everything is equivalent to being provided with a maze and going around the outside of the entire maze to reach the finish. technically, you got there, but not correctly


i never said you'd get satisfaction by completing this (if you did manage to complete it the stated way, you should be very very proud), but you shouldn't get any satisfaction by going through a loophole

i would see why you would want to IF i hadn't provided a 2D diagram
if i told you how to draw it, fine, make it 3D. but i didn't

the point of this riddle/puzzle/thing was not to solve it, but to try to solve it to exercise your creativity and problem solving skills
once again, if i had said it was impossible from the beginning, no one would have gotten anything out of it, which was the entire point

if i posted right off the bat that it wasn't able to be solved (that anyone knows of), no one would have tried it, and there wouldn't have been any fun (or brain exercise)

Sure you did. You assumed 1) That this kid knew how to solve it, and 2) that lines couldn't go through houses or serve multiple purposes.

Clearly he doesn't know how to solve it without resorting to "outside the box" thinking. And incidentally, it is impossible to solve it any other way.


The rules of a child? I've demonstrated that the puzzle cannot be solved using the rules you assumed were there (rules that really aren't there at all). If you've found a solution using your "rules" then by all means please post it for us. Otherwise this is an excercise in futility.

They had to make it 3-D in order to get it to work. You can also poke a hole in the paper and continue a line on the back and bring it back around to the front. That's the only way to get it to work...we had this riddle in my electrical class and he let us go a couple of days tearing our hair out trying to figure it out before he gave us the answer.
