Thanks for all the replies. Went to SW the other night and had a great time. Makes a refreshing change to be able to walk into a place sit at the bar and enjoy a drink (All drink prices listed outside on billboard so you know what your up for before you walk in) and the activities without being mobbed, nice to be able to talk to few of the girls without being asked for LD and music being at a level that allows you to carry on a conversation. Finally picked a lovely had a drink with her and split. Had a great rest of the night and morning and afternoon. BF set at 600 baht and paid 2000 for very LT, although obviously what the girl charges is up to her/you. I found the foam sticks a novel way to introduce yourself, which I didnt really get into but next time I go back Im gonna see if I can borrow a couple to take back to room with girl, that should get the neighbors thinking!

totally understand that and could very well be the case
but as a business owner who has recieved many more good reviews and profited from those good reviews and being a member of this board, you quit over a couple of bad reviews??

i mean, look at Tony at BNC. i know he doesnt have the same financial stake as RAW has in his businesses, but that guy has copped a lot of crap and has just moved on

again, there has been never anything but good said friom people who have met RAW, always very positive comments that are made, but if you want to reap the rewards this board provides, then you have to take the small number of hits now and then also. sorry to break it to people, but that is the world of business

As a discussion area, this forum and the others about Phuket are interesting, but as to advertising, I think people over-estimate what effect this (or any) forum has on the outside world.

It wasn't all that long ago that I posted something about a hotel, only to have a bunch of people here say how terrible it was, and that nobody reading that stuff would stay there. In the "real world" the hotel got fully booked, and stayed that way for ages, and even now is well above the average.

As a place for discussion, I'd say Raw has every right to get upset about things that he knows to be inaccurate or misleading. Nothing is perfect, and even the best places sometimes take "hits", but unless it's first hand information from a person you trust, everything is just "opinion". If you add up enough opinions, you probably get closer to the reality. If I want to know about a camera, a hotel, or whatever, I'll read lots of reports, and ignore the best/worst and concentrate on the middle ones which are more likely to be accurate. Even then, I'd *never* make a decision without checking out things myself, either in person or from their website.

Reminds me of my first trip to San Francisco at the age of 21.

Broadway had a lot of strip bars back then. We were poking around and trying to look through the curtains. The doorman said it was free to get in but a 2 drink minimum. I didn't have the cash but my friend was on vacation and really wanted to go in and said he would treat.

Lady leads us in to our table and takes our drink order. She comes back with 2 drinks each. I complain that by the time I finish the 1st drink the 2nd will have melted ice. Too bad.

My friend, who was too focussed on the show was unpleasantly surprised when he read the bill. He never asked how much the drinks were before we ordered.

On the other forum a poster claimed that all gogo`s were paying off the touts from overcharging ie 500 baht beers. They were corrected by a regular poster from here who pointed out that Crazy Girls and Suzy Wongs will not pay the scammers, despite the owner being harrassed and threatened by these scum.

Its your money so I`m not going to tell you what to do, but I feel principles and bravery like this should be rewarded, so please give a thought to visiting these two places if gogo`s are your thing.

To forestall the inevitable cynicism, I do not know the owner or have any financial interest in these bars.

Now that is probably my favourite beer ever, only seen it in the Green Man and wasn't the best i'd tasted. Muddy Murphy's in Singapore was my local and served a great pint of it but at 6.75 GBP not the cheapest but then again it only took 4 of them to get smashed !!!

i went with a girl at My Friends Bar in Karon and the girls lived in the bar and had to be back by 11am the next day and i always felt weird delaing with a situation like that
being involved with a girl that is not totally free to go about made me feel uneasy.

When I left pints were in the 1.60 range IIRC.. But most pubs and places I have gone, pints have been averaging about 3 quid for normal non special beers (carlsberg, hieneken, stella, etc etc).. Special ciders and imports a bit more.

Booze from the supermarket is amazingly cheap.. 24 for a tenner kind of cheap..

Yes, some of the BMs here have indeed reaped the benefits of the grapevine. Like RAW and BillPay to name a few. But then again, they both deserve a lot of credit for actually consistently providing high quality services. The grapevine can easily turn sour if these standards are sub par.

Was in SW just the other night and it was brilliant as usual. Only way to take a stand against the touts --- and overcharging --- is to support the businesses that consistently DON’T use them.
