It was the bar area at Sukhumvit Soi 10 that was demolished on January 26, 2003, although this action was condemned by the politicians.

Well, you might be right in the long run but I think such a development will be more driven by commercial interests. I dont think there is a consistent Thai policy on how closing times should affect the tourist areas. The local politicians in Pattaya at least seem to support longer opening times. It might just not be an important issue for Bangkok.
