Most people who don't follow American politics or just politics in general usually lean to the left. Like an electronic device on factory settings, the uninformed mind of a casual follower of politics is programmed to believe in liberal politicians, idealogies and propaganda. There are intelligent liberals who are able to dissect and criticize Trump's policies because they are educated about the issues and therefore have principles that they stick by through thick and thin. Kudos to them.

Sadly, the loudest ones are those who are only liberals by default. These are the ones who only read the headline, not the entire article. They only listen to sound bytes, not the whole interview/speech/debate. They take the mainstream media at face value and dismiss any other outlet as fringe propaganda. They downplay discussions that challenge conventional belief as conspiracy theories because they're too intellectually lazy to think outside the box. Their opinions are formulated by what they hear from CNN, MSNBC, CBS, The New York Times, Washington Post and Hollywood celebrities who for the most part are just as uneducated as they are. There are so many things to criticize Trump for and yet none of these sheep have a single legitimate critique of the president. It's all ad hominen attacks and common buzz words they hear from the media like 'racist', 'fascist', 'sexist', 'xenophobe' blah blah blah. Orange man bad, he's racist because he wants to build a wall, he said ALL Mexicans are rapists, he brags about sexually assaulting women... any other lame attack?

I thought Harris held her own during the debate last night. Both were pivoting like crazy but Pence was worse.

Pence tried talking over her, it in a softer tone, many times. This is likely at the direction of Trump to be on the attack. But that doesn’t sit well with women to be talked over her. It might have been a baiting strategy to get Harris to lose her cool but she kept control.

I didn’t hear Pence really answer any questions but always tried to pivot. The H1N1 60m infections was a weird pivot given the deaths were less than 12.5 thousand and COVID-19 is 7.5m cases with 211 thousand deaths and rising.

I thought the good point Harris made was around the Supreme Court nominee when she threw out the Lincoln example when in the same situation, the greatest President in US history (and a Republican) wouldn’t fill the seat with 4 weeks left and waited until after the election which Lincoln won. Harris didn’t answer the question of stacking the Supreme Court either but the counter would be that move is unnecessary if the Republicans held to their word 4 years ago about SC nominees close to the election and also followed Lincoln’s lead and waited to see who won the Presidency and let the winner choose. That’s a “she hit me back after I hit her so punish her” attack by Biden.

I thought Harris was clever when she referred to Biden as “Joe” and Obama as “Barrack” and failed to use the word “President” or “Vice President” but rather “Donald” and “Mike”. It humanizes Joe and undermines the legitimacy and authority of Trump and Pence while still treating both sides equally

It is funny how this poll seems to mimic the latest polls in the US. If Biden wins I wonder if six months later Trump supporters will be honest about advocating for him, or will they disavow him? Plenty of Bush supporters now distance themselves from him or claim they were never for him. To be fair, to some extent the same thing happened with Obama. I’m very curious about the Senate races with particular interest is South Carolina and Graham. He was close to McCain who always stuck to what he thought was right and wrong. After McCain died, Graham seemed to lose his moral compass and sold his soul to Trump even after he used to attack Trump. Normally he’d be a shoe in to win again but it’s now looking like a toss up. Lots of other Republican Senators at risk too.

But what I also find amusing is so many people think politicians are actually smart. I actually know a couple of people who went into politics, both provincial and federal and trust me, the ones I knew were not brain surgeons, heck one I knew in University and he was failing. He ended up getting elected and became health minister for one of the provinces. Oh, and the degree he was failing wasn't even in medicine.

This is so true. My friend's wife told me about a guy she went to high school with, back then he was an aimless shithead that nobody thought would do anything, and he ended up getting elected mayor of their hometown.

A lot of times politicians can win just on name recognition, or the right slogans and empty promises.

In fact, that is exactly what Pence should have said. Why not ask Harris how she could possible "quote" a guy whose statue she is considering removing? Perhaps the mental mechanism there is the same as the one that allows her to run with a man who she accused of sexual assault and racism less than a year ago?

Yes, Trump is a liar. But most of his lies are shallow, self-aggrandizing and most of all, hyperbolic. The Dems' lies are insidious and morally rotten to the core. Give me the obvious blow hard over the mealy mouthed socialists any day.

That explains the ignorance. The POTUS has no control over what each state does, all he can do is offer any assistance needed, which he did. He had a medical ship pull into NY harbour where it remained empty as the mayor sent infected people into retirement homes causing countless deaths. When he shut down foreign incoming travel, the demonrats had a shit fit, called him racist, pelosi, schumer and cuomo went into the streets and told people to party and gather and carry on life as normal, said the POTUS was paranoid and had no idea what he was doing. But I guess y’all didn’t see that or conveniently forgot about it, your misguided hatred for a man your tv tells you to hate takes over any logic you may once have had. If the death count from NY, NJ and CA had been what other states have averaged, the US would be close to on par with Canada. As for Bernie supporters, well there’s not much that can be said about that. I just wonder if it hurts?

The problem with Bernie or Warren for example is that they are too far left and makes them an easy target for Trump to attack. Would be difficult to sway independent voters and definitely won't win any conservatives.

All true and I've made the same arguments, but Trump does deserve criticism. He has failed to set a good example with the masks and social distancing and his statements often do not come out with the right tone. That is an important part of the job of being President. I don't think anyone can seriously contest that he has made some real gaffers. I know it is maddening to see the almost total one sidedness of the media's take on Trump and the sheep-like digestion of that garbage by the majority, so I get where you're coming from.
