Polymyalgia Rheumatica

Hello out there! Has anyone treated Polymyalgia Rheumatica with any massage therapy or any other holistic therapies? I have a new client asking for therapy with this condition. I have reasearched info on this disease and understand the symptoms, however, I thought I might ask if anyone has treated this before I write to her G.P.

Obviously not many people have dealt with this problem, best just google it again along with holistic therapy for...Not sure what you mean though by writing to her G.P.

My mother-in-law had this and all her muscles were extremely painful. She tried light massage and shiasu but couldn't cope with either.

So, I'd be wary. She was also on high-dose steroids and bruised very easily - eventually her skin was tissuepaper-thin, when the slightest knock would bring it off in sheets . I'd suggest something very light like Manual Lymphatic drainage, but I might be wrong.

As one is dealing with an autoimmune disease, then nutritional protocols to help this are appropriate - I wish I'd known when m-i-l was so ill. Please suggest a consultation with a registered Nutritional Therapist who will advise your client as to how to reduce inflammation and gut permeability - too complicated to go into here. It could make all the difference.

Definitely worth trying Emmett technique and / or Bowen Technique. Have had success with the few people I have seen with this condition.

My poor Mum suffers from Polymyalgia Rheumatica and has had really good results with accupuncture.

She is like a different person these days and the heavy aching in her arms has been relieved greatly by this treatment.

My Mum also had PMR. A very painful condition, she also was on steroids and had very thin skin. The steroids can cause osteoporosis so the bones in the spine may be fragile.

I used to give her reflexology, not too hard pressure, and a light massage, both helped, but light is the essential element and not for too long. You must ask for feed back and tell them to immediately report any pain and if the pressure is ok.

I used a light grapeseed oil with a little geranium essential oil.

Hi, one of my most regular clients has polymyalgia and she has regular reflexology treatments. I carry out a gentle all over treatment and then we go back to focus on the areas which are causing her the most problems at the time, all her hormones and in particular the parathyroid which controls calcium production for muscles.

She always finds that the reflexology helps her cope and she knows when she is due her next treatment as she is always more achy in the few days before.

This is (was) an 'old' thread but I've only just noticed it.
In my experience people with this condition do seem to be very sensitive and react a lot to different treatments, but low potency homeopathic remedies have been helpful. I woul advise seeking out a professional rather than dabbling yourself. Other 'gentle' therapies might help. Hom
