In a spa situation you can market yourself, give people your card, tell them you are available at such and such a place, you may not choose to because you're only working at the spa to supplement your income while you build a private practice, or whatever, BUT it's the MT's choice not to promote the spa.
In this situation it's like a private home, you can't get people to see you there, no point promoting it. It's like an outcall or a corporate job.
You are right in some ways, but not everyone will look at it as a need to build a business. Sometimes a little extra work is just nice to have. Having the space set up (and big enough!!) and not needing to do any advertising or printing or ANYTHING but to show up IF it is convenient is nice. I have to promote my outcall business, which takes time and expense. I have to lug my stuff, which takes time and energy.
I don't think it really compares to a spa or to an outcall. I don't know how to classify it.....but if it was close enough to home and I'd have the choice to take the client or pass the opportunity to the next MT on the list, I would be happy to be on the roster for something like this. I wouldn't need it to grow my business, and it wouldn't cost me a thing. I guess it is one of those "to each his own" deals.
