I like the new idea and the new proposed layout...as long as they can keep it medium to low priced I think it can do well. But, in my experience and I hope I'm wrong this time, soon they will be trying to sell beer for 150+ a bottle etc etc and left scratching their heads as to why it didn't work. I really hope I'm wrong!! Cool location though. Nice place for a starter drink.

It looks like the entire row of stools on the street side of the bar will mean customers have their backs to Bangla Road. The best thing about that location is being able to look out onto the street... not easy if you have to sit in the opposite direction.

Since my arrival last week I have been there a few times. San Mig Light 80 Baht, which is OK for me.
About 6-7 high tables at the street side (excellent for viewing passers by), then a few more in a second ros, then the bar. Seems not different from some other places on Bangla: sitting at the bar you can't see the street.

Yes the 'imitation' Hard Rock in Bangla 20 or so years ago even used to print up el cheapo tee shirts using the original Hard Rock massageplanete logo - I think I've still got one gathering dust somewhere.

^The one I'm talking about was just a small single story bar - back in the days of the open drains, and the Nordic Bungalows (roughly where Ocean is now).

The old grey matter's a bit hazy but the Hard Rock was 100% definitely in Bangla, pretty much on its own (as far as I recall, Seadragon wasn't there in those days). The main bar areas were Bangla, the Expat soi (it used to be wider and was filled with bars), an old bar area off Sai Nam Yen near the beach road (where they put hotels around a new smaller bar area four or five years ago), the one on the beach road between Bangla and Sai Nam Yen and the outdoor multi-restaurant place in Rathuthit (used to be all bars). That was about it, from recollection. There were a couple of others dotted around - some where the night market used to be (behind Sand Inn and where Jung Ceylon sits now). I wish I had some photos - but in those days, film was expensive and most people didn't waste it on taking snaps of bars.

As I recall, there was a small "Hard Rock" bar on Soi Seadragon at one time. That's the Soi where people pound nails into slices of trees, right? Anyway, it was four or five bars down from Bangla, on the same side as Suzi Wong's is now on.

The Sea Dragon one was in my memory the 2nd one, it moved from where it was on Bangla where i think there was new development, i'm going back to 92 'ish from when i first was there.

The Hard Rock was in Bangla until the late 80s or early 90s - when most of Ratuthit south east of Bangla was open field and south west was housing.
