Well,i just finished a 3 hour massage with one of my favorite massage girls.

Personally if it does happen like that they will have a simple legit argument most probably along the lines of

3000 baht joiners fee

1500 baht to the "entertainment staff"
1500 baht to the hotel

the excuse being she is entertainment staff and she attended your room so must pay joiners fee of 3000 baht what happens is nothing to do with hotel then and it would seem the girls are doing it for free until they fet a envelope at the end of the night

personally if they didn't tell me there is a stupidly high joiners fee and slapped it on my bill they wouldn't be paid

Agreed. I no longer think paying her was the original dispute - getting hit for a joiner fee - and a big one - without you ever leaving the hotel grounds is the kicker here.

What "scam" says the hotel management, "it is just enforcement of our 3000 baht joiner fee rule, nothing more." Enjoy.

Hotels like Le Meridien dont **** about with fees, you pay them or they will call the police and take it further.

Well, obviously it is worth is to some people or they wouldn't sell any massages there. Apparently, some will pay 10 times over the going rate for a little bit of convenience. But, as I see it, that is because the money is worth little to them, rather than it being a good deal.

I can get a good professional massage here in the States for $60, so why would I want to pay that in LOS? That is how I look at it. If $60 was such a good deal, I would be getting them every day here, as I love a good massage as much as anything.

But I only get them every day when in LOS, because at $4 an hour, I can get 15 times as many massages for my money. For the price of 2 massages in the US, I can get I get massages every day for a month. Now that is what I call a good deal! :great:

And I would rather go to a massage parlor to get a massage. Who wants to hang out in their room when they are not sleeping?

how come whenever anyone on this board spends a little money for better quality or just because they want to it is looked down upon or someone says something ridiculous like above
has nothing to do with boosting your ego or knowing that you are a 1st class person
it's called paying for a 1st class service over normal service

i frequent regular massage places and enjoy them and think they are a great deal for the money
but if i am in the mood for ultimate relaxtion with the full spa treatment then i prefer to do it in an upscale hotel with all the amenities that come with it that don't come with a regular massage place
has zero to do with ego.

I just don't get this joiner fees, Stayed at the Absolute seapearl in 2007, meet this Aussie lass and had to pay 2000 bath to take her up to my room.

But when I stayed at the Amanpuri I had a friend with his wife and her sister come visit for dinner, got a bit late and the villa had extra bedrooms so they stayed the night, I was expecting to pay some extra for it but no extra charge to my bill for their stay, except food/drinks of course.

The guy took a girl, albeit a Russian back to his room, it wasn't his gf or wife, he got charged a joiners fee, seems so obvious and simple that I'm sure I must have missed something.

Now if the guy telling the story was charged by the girl then it is a russian scam but the jf has nothing to do with it, nor does the hotel. If the guy wasn't charged, then he was just incenced that he took a girl to his room and was charged jf when she was not a working girl and doesn't erealise the jf is chargeable anyway, h00ker or not.

As masseuse on this Island go, the girl who runs a very succesful massage teaching business, employing a lot of staff, teaching the massage girls in the posh spas and hotels, works in Corner Bar in Kamala and so do some of her girls when not out on contract. The massage from her and her girls is the same or in fact better than the Spas, she taught them!!

There's a reason that there are different quality levels of almost any goods/service in the world. Some are happy with the lowest quality and think "why would anyone want more" others want only the best and think "why would anyone settle for less".

I'm happy somewhere in the middle but can understand why someone would pay more, or less even. For some people money is easier to come by and to spend, for others it's either hard to come by or hard to spend.
