CALEDON, On. - Calgary call girl Kera Freeland phoned a friend to complain about a "bad date" the evening she disappeared.

Police are now investigating to see if it was that bad date that eventually lead to her untimely death.

The cause of death is still unknown. Furthermore, as much as it is natural for our little world to be concerned, there's no indication her death was industry-related. I'm not saying it's not, but not saying it is.

Police do not believe there is any connection between Freeland’s death and that of Sonia Varaschin, an Orangeville nurse whose body was found in Caledon in September.

This ticks me off. Only reason they are saying that is because she's been labeled an escort and how dare they compare her to a nurse would be their thoughts.

Media and the cops should broaden their horizon before it's too late. Imagine going after a lead looking for a John or a pimp when it could be right there looking at them. Not saying a serial killer but one never knows.

I just guessing here but, I assume another possibility is that as the police have access to far more fact and less sensational newspaper selling rhetoric, its possible that they may have someone in mind for the first one, or alternatively there is something uniquely different between the two cases that would point to seperate murderers.

Im not sure the cops are jumping on the bad trick band wagon, I think its more a media paper selling thing. On the other hand. you may be right.

Good call, I totally forgot about that unsolved murder. And if cops are saying there's no connection they may very well be one and they're just lying to make the killer think they're not on to him.

Orangeville and Caledon are only 10 miles apart, you bet I think there's a connection.
Those small towns rarely have murders, and now suddenly there's 2 killings in the space of 6 months and very close to each other geographically??!

We don\'t actually know it was a killing. We do know she is dead. And we are assuming she was killed because she was an escort even tho we don\'t actually know if she was killed, or simply had an accident, or anything at this point.She spent tme in Alberta, so she wouldn\'t be someone (like a native Vancouverite) who underestimates the weather in January, imo. I am also questioning some in the media there who keep saying her last message was saying she had a bad date, when the reports that I read quoting the person who received the message in fact says that it said there was \"a lot of drama\", going on, and she was going to talk about with him later. To me that sounds like someone who was calm about what was happening, otherwise I would expect a lot more of a dramatic message if she was scared about something. If she wasn\'t texting for help, or to get picked up for a ride home, or something along those lines, then I don\'t think it was that obvious that the drama was a bad date. It could easily have been she was out with a client, and his SO showed up, and now she was dealing with that and waiting for a taxi to get home. Or the police showed up to a loud party complaint, or whatever. In other words, who knows. Not me.

Yeah, that Gauthier is SO generalizing. Saying that "there is only so much an agency can do" is no different than saying "there is only so much the police can do" or "there is only so much the EPA can do..." of course Captain Obvious...why not overstate the obvious? I mean seriously, the ONLY way anyone could protect the lady 100% is if there was a tusted bouncer/bodyguard in the same room...DOH.....

If there is no proven connection between Kera's job and her death, (which they keep stating), why do they keep referring to her job and the agency instead of trying to find her fucking killer?

I love this one too: a source from the sex trade said her death may have been because of a “date” with a client gone wrong.

Holy crap, her death may have been because of a lone truck driver piloting a solid gold rig, it MAY have been because she was giving blow jobs in the back of a starbucks, it MAY have been anything at this point.....
