As said before just avoid the beaches in the night. Especially if you`re drunk.
But i would say in generally LOS is very safe.

This remembers me to Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro. Never go to the beach after dark, except on New Year.

Hope Patong beach is the only one. Had never problems on Kata Noi beach, walking around with my teelak and sitting on the beach chairs in the night.

Where do you fly from when you go to LOS? I've had difficulty getting a flight from Manchester for a reasonable price. Phuket at Christmas/New year seems really expensive, BKK is cheaper.

I have to say i have quite a few experiences of this type of thing while being in los, as any person who was there the times i was there could prob say about me too!

From the drunken night i had with the Thai mafia (with a mtb girl) to the time the LB mafia took me under there wing at about 3am, and i ended-up at home at 7 with my belongings and **** cherry still intact!

But there are some dodgy areas not to go too (i.e. the beach in Patong) at night, but the best policy is if it feels wrong then try to get out of the situation, as others have said over and over!

Is there any chance that you may have misread the situation here ?? The reason I ask this, is that only one guy came towards you and not all three. Obviously you were in the situation so you have the best idea of what was going on and also did the right thing then by taking yourself away from the area if unsure. What did your BG say afterwards, as she must have had a good idea of what was going on.

Wow ! I never knew that patong bch. was dangerous at night!!!!! When i lived there for the summer of 2002 I was ALWAYS wandering up and down patong bch. at night and in very dark alley parts of bangla etc. after 3 am looking for my boyfriend....(I should have been looking in certain bg's rooms) but oh well. anyways, i must have an extremely overworked guardian angel because i always had my little purse on me and $$$ with me etc. and the scariest thing that ever happend was a LB saying hi to me while standing in a dark corner and i couldnt see but only hear him/her. Wow, the crazy things ya do when ur 19 and uninformed huh?? Must have been pure luck cause im definitely not initimidating (5'2 99 lbs. or something close to that) .....good to know for future reference though. I wonder why nobody bothered me??????

3 years ago I was sometimes on the beach in the night too.
At that time, it wasn't so dangerous there.
Had some interesting conversations with the LB´s.

Today more ladies/LB are on the beach and the propensity to violence/theft is higher.
So nowadays it is much more dangerous to go to the beach (in the night) than 3 years ago.

However, this doesn't mean that it is so extremely dangerous and attacks or robberies and theft take place there every day. But it is better to avoid the beach ( not the beach road) in the night primarily if one is alone. no:

:bangin: Been back in the uk now for a few weeks, but still in touch with the b/g I was with. She tells me that the sensai mafia roam the beach at night and the reason it is no longer safe is that before the wave lots of people used the beach late at night and no one thought anything of it, safety in numbers, but since the wave people are still scared to go on the beach, hence potential safety problems :cheers:

Same thing happened to me, I was drinking in MTB dancing my a$$ off up and down the soi, ended up bar hopping up to soi Tiger, then kicked on to Tai-Pan to get my groove on. I was having a wild time dancing with all the beautiful ladies, next thing I know I wake up in my bed saying "how in hell did I get back here?" felt beside me: "Hello, who are u?"
It was a girl from Down Under Bar, next to Mai Thai that had found me in Tai-Pan going wild dancing on the seforum.xxxe etc., decided to take me home, she carried me 5 blocks to the hotel! I only remember snipets of the walk home and saying hello to every person i saw lol, but I had everything on me and she didnt touch cash and cameras I had left in full view in my room. Trustworthy people.
