Salt Scrubs

Can anyone reccommend a salt scrub that is morepastey than runny? I'll make my own if you have the recipe.I want to avoid goop falling off people as they transition from the table to the shower.Secondly, any FYIs I need to know to offer a salt scrub to massage clients?I have some victims lined up to practice on.Thanks

Are the clients leaving the room in a robe or spa wrap & walking to another room? What are the logistics of the layout? Right now I work in a dry room facility, so I don't offer salt scrubs (although I retail them). Years ago I worked in a salon where we did the salt scrubs with the client in the shower:  the client wore a velcro spa wrap & we applied the salt scrub to their back, shoulders, legs & arms, leaving the remainder of the gomage with them so they could attend to their own chest, abdomen, etc while they stood in the steam (shower had a steam attachment). That made things easier:   the client showered first, put on their spa wrap, you assisted with the salt scrub as you educated them about the healthful benefits, etc, and then as they steamed & showered off, you prepared the treatment room for their massage or body wrap, etc. That makes it easier to progress from treatment to treatment if the client is taking advaneforum.xxxe of a massage, salt glow and body wrap.  We always prepared our own, allowing the clients to choose from a small variety of aromatherapy blends (which we also sold, so they could add them to their bath, etc, at home). Throw a couple of generous handfuls of epsom salts in a bowl & add aromatherapy & an ounce or two of your massage oil (jojoba, coconut, etc). Add just a little hot water to mix into the consistency you like to work with & you're set. If your massage oils are already blended with essential oils, that saves a step. One of my favorite 'balancing blend' combinations is lavender, rosemary, chamomile, geranium & grapefruit. I also have a really fragrant detox blend that I have concocted. Whenever you're out at places like bath & Bodyworks, etc, if you like the aroma of a lotion, etc, read the label & use that as a basis to experiment. Jill/Sagetherapist

Salt Scrubs

Thanks for the info. I was about coming to the conclusion that I was going to have to make my own.The room is massage room with attached full bath,sothey can walk straight off the table when I leave the room.Michelle

When I am applying a salt scrub I keep a bowl full of warm water and a wash cloth next to the table.  I apply the scrub one area at a time (leg, arm, back, stomach, etc.)  after it has been applied and I have worked it around I remove the majority of the scrub with the warm damp wash cloth.  Many of my clients say it feels great sliding slowly across the skin.  This greatly minimizes the amount of scrub on the client when they are making their way to the shower.

???Please, who can tell me the diff between regular  table salt and sea salt in terms of their effects in treatments.And another question, why is the teatment called sea salt glow ? Is the sea salt from Wall-Mart or Bulk Food stores the same as in beuty supply stores ?Thank you for the answers.Sincerely, Spal.

Salt Scrubs

The only real difference I can think of is the iodide in most table salt. There's certainly no reason to have that slathered on my skin. As far as a difference between the grocery store and the beauty store... I don't know for sure, but I would guess that unless they're adding something, salt is salt. What's with the phrase "organic sea salt" anyway? There's nothing organic about sodium chloride is there?

I cant imagine using Epsom salt on my clients. Although it is usually the same form as Sea Salt. I don't think I would ever tell my clients I was using Epsom Salt when they were paying $25 to $50 for a Scrub. Or it would be my luck I'd be in the store buying up the Epsom Salt and and one of my clients would see me and ask .... So, is that what you have been using on me the whole time.     But.... I do think I'll check into trying this a couple of times.

Table salt is sodium chloride, epsom salt is magnesium chloride and sea salt is this and more depending on the sea from which it came.  In other words sea salt is supposedly more mineral rich than table salt or epsom salt.  Does it make a difference when applying it to the body?  I don't know...except that it may create more of a drawing effect for inflammation or it could be used in smaller quantities.  Just guesses.  I know when I bathe in sea salt I use less than when I use epsom salt to get equal sweat effect.  My $.02Cassandra
