I'm usually going alone and never got bored. Actually, i prefer the feeling of freedom that i get when i don't have to think on other's wishes.
Two years ago i had an encounter that amazed me. A mate not seen since high school, met a 11pm in front of McDonald's. We got drinking and talking about memories till 2am...

This november actually will be the first time i'll come with a friend, and we've ambitious plans...

First of all a liveabord to the Similan, and then a villa with private pool at the club bamboo resort...
I have some expectation on this trip, especially on the planned private party by the pool the last day with at least four lovely ladies and a looot of beer arty:

It is my opinion that you need to be aware that stuff like that goes on. I had three friends about 5 years ago who went to a pub and were drinking away (I had already departed) and they wanted to charge something crazy like (for memory) about 400 Baht for the Changs they had already drank and they laughed at this and said that was ridiculous and the barman moved aside something on the bar covering a sign that says you must pay for the extra entertainement they had enjoyed whilst being there. Very stupidly they told them to stick it and headed for the door and a couple of people closed the door, pulled knives out and stripped them of all their money. Easy for me to say as i love a drink, but you need to choose your company wisely and dont get too hammered. If something doesnt seem or feel right, it probably isnt.
Thats my opinion. As for the pole, fair to have to pay something i would have thought.

The one at at Bamboo resort (named Ananthara) through Villarenters.com: 3 nights (minimum stay) 770$ total (with early bird discount). Beeing with one friend, means around 130$/night, maybe not cheap but considering the villa and the private pool IMHO a good deal, i guess...

GO. You will still have a great time. There were supposed to be six of us on my first trip - I decided to go anyway - ended up alone in Pattaya (but not for long) - a decade later and I still think it was a turning point of my life (for the better).

Well, the time I drunkenly chose a very short gal we did get few LB's snickering at us. I told the gal I was with "Dont listen to them... you have customer, they don't. You win."

No brainer, just go.
And when you're there, well simply watch which bars you're in (Prob the ones in the main area will be ok esp the crowded ones). Check your drink tab every time it comes - that way they'll know you'll spot any scam.
If something looks dodgy - then it probably is. Good advice anywhere that - Leeds, Sydney etc.
Don't get so drunk you can't safely find your way back, although if you're just hitting Bangla and staying at SBH then you'd "probably" be safe even if you were crawling along the street, but you know what I mean.
Don't be walking around after say 2am on your own in the quieter areas if you can help it. The first time you try, you'll know exactly why.
Oh and do not go walking late night down Beach Road Even worse, don't go on the beach. So you'll prob be ok but it would complete you're education :

Thing is, it's common sense. I live in a town that can be a bit rough shall we say, and I felt safer in Patong at night than in my town, but it isn't a nuns teaparty. Just be aware as you would in say any city, and you'll be totally fine and have a great time.

As for the 7k bar thing, well if I was the club owner I'd probably do the same thing and charge more than it cost to repair. If I charged just repair cost, then I bet the same fatboy would come along the night after and wreck it again for the laugh of it :
