Have always just given 100 to the mama after selecting the girl.
Probably should try the 50 before and 50 after, but I have not tried that
yet. Most of the girls are ok, and get the job done, so I have no complaints, and have never been asked for a tip. Only one was so very extaordinary that I tipped her 20rmb before we left the room, and she seemed happy with that and gave me her number. But, of course, she did not speak any English, so it would have been useless to call her.

I live in the Philippines, and I learned a long time ago that paying more does not guarantee better service. What I try to look for in Shenzhen is a happy girl that is not scared to look at me and smile at me. There may be better lookers to choose from, but I tend to choose the happy ones that do not look afraid or too shy.

Sometimes at the train station it is crowded and will take a while to clear the immigration. Taking the ferry , the lines are smaller.
If you take the ferry your bags has to be put through the x-ray machine. By train most of the time no.

I'm a white american guy, and always pay 100 RMB. I do not speak any of the language, I just type 100 into their cell phone, and walk away if they try to ask for more. They always chase me down telling me that 100 is ok.
I had always read that 100 is the correct price to pay, so that is what I pay.

use RMB...the value of HKD has dipped below that of RMB. Although they'll take your HKG, some may ask for a bit more because of the lower value.

Dezhiba said it is faster and hassle free to take the boat to SZ..I always take the train from Hung Hom..You can catch the train from TST and Mongkok..I think the train takes 45 minutes..The only hassle is going through immigration..which may take a while..

You can get a visa for ShenZhen or China in your hotel in HK or at the China Travel Service in the train station in Hung Hom or in TST..Cost $400 HKD if you can wait 4 days..a same day visa cost twice as much

There are many options to take a boat from Hong Kong to Shenzhen.
1. From HKG airport there are ferries to Shekou.
2. From Kowloon and Hongkong There are ferries going to fu yong terminal which is close to Shenzhen Airport.
3. There are ferries going from Kowloon and Hong Kong going to Shekou ferry terminal.

The question is why would you want to take a ferry instead of train or bus.
If you are planning on going to Shekou it is a good idea to take ferry. Otherwise stick to the train or bus from Mongkok. Train goes to lowu check point. Buses go to another check point. But both are closer to Shenzhen town than Shekou.
Also if you are going to Shenzhen airport you can take the ferry. If you happen to take the train, there are mini buses taking you to Shenzhen airport for 20 RMB. Right outside train station.

Where do you catch the boat to SZ?? There are lots of places to catch the train...there is no hassle except for going through immigration. The boat might be faster though as it does not stop everywhere
