Good post. I completely agree that Soi Tiger is the best and it has improved a lot lately. The Snake Bar (front right side) changed its bar layout, which added a lot of seating and some better vaneforum.xxxe points for sitting and watching the action (but this is the most expensive bar in the soi I think, singha 100, bacardi breezer 160). Cocktails and Dreams moving over to become "Katoys r Us" has hugely improved the Jagger bar area of the soi, Crazy Horse is still a great bar , but the bell used to ring all the time, pretty silent lately....and oddly, it seems to be the hottest (temperature-wise at least!) bar in the soi. They upgraded the toilets in the back so the men's room has about 10 urinals (of course this is Thailand so a few are not working...) but still 5 baht and small entryway. The bars in the back of the soi near the toilets have really improved to become, dare I say it, quality bars....they used to be very dodgy and I would never go there. The music on Soi Tiger could definitely use a little work.
Soi Eric used to be my favorite but I think the quality of girls has gone down significantly, but still worth a trip.
Soi Lion, though bright, is a lot of fun too and the quality has definitely improved -- and it is more fun to sit there now that they have cut out the bubble-gum crappy music and play a more "normal" selection. The bars down the left side and in the back seem to have the most quality, but that is subjective I know. They also "improved" their toilet area, but they still don't have a drain that can handle downpours so you have to wade back to them if it is raining! Anyone else notice that the 5 baht girl always gives you back 5 1baht coins if you give her a 10? I mean, she never has a 5 baht coin...that struck me odd one night and now I am kinda trying to see how long she can keep the streak going...
Sukhomvit Road - I got caught in here one day by a downpour and had a really good time - but the place is just not yet busy enough. Very cool layout however, if ever they could get the second floor filled with bars, it would be a little like Nana Plaza (BKK).
By the way, there is a little bar just across from Soi Gonzo that seems to have a permanent promotion of 50b for vodka/red bull. You can see into the soi from that and the first bar "Mon Cheri" seemed to have a few lookers. I did walk through the soi recently and it seemed pretty quiet.
The Dragon Go-Go keeps getting better, though in the past I've always thought the waitresses looked better than the dancers, this seems to be shifting ... also I like the 200b pitcher of Tiger or Heineken. Good popcorn too, just like at the movies. The shows are a bit tame, but they do have a few, and the music seems to be pretty good. Good place if you need a little A/C to cool you off.
Cheers,
Robaht
