So, here's another marketing attempt that went down the drain.
One of my clients tells me that there is a weekly exhibition going on in town and that she had a booth there. So I asked her, what kind of exhibition? She said that there was going to be a booth with a lady selling jewelry, another booth with a couple of hair dressers and her booth (tanning) and that it could potentially be a great opportunity to get my name out there. So I asked her, how much is the cost for renting a booth, she said nothing, that I would be in a space next to her. They wanted to do a raffle and the winner would get a massage of course paid by her company. So OK, can't hurt to give it a try, after all, I would just set up for 2 hours and that was it, right? WRONG.
Here is what was left out....the place was a Tiki Bar, it was a ladies night, there was another lady displaying sex toys right in front to where we were going to have our display (this part she did not know, and boy was she upset), and also, there are people drinking alcohol, after all, it is a bar. So I spoke with her, the manager of the event and the manager of the place and told them that I did not feel comfortable giving massages in this kind of setting. Thankfully, these were very nice people, they not only understood but agreed, so I did not set up. My client was so embarrased, I told her it was OK, I left afterwards and then I cried alone for a few minutes. It's been a rough week for me, so I guess everything that I had building up inside simply came out, it's another day now so I am flipping the page. I guess this will be another story to tell the grandchildren when I am older.
The good news, I will be meeting with another therapist this saturday to try to come up with marketing ideas, I have read a lot of ideas posted in this forum so I am now priting and reviewing them so we can do our brainstorm better. She has been in the field for 15 years and she is wonderful to work with, we'll see what happens, I am just not ready to give up on my massage therapy career, I don't want to give up on something that I really love doing.
