It's been a while since I cruised La Zona. (Lately, I have been partaking of escorts almost exclusively.) After a satisfying episode with an escort, I decided to make a trek to La Zona just to take a look-see. Some things have changed, many are still the same. Here is the situation as I saw it one afternoon this Spring 2011:
The streets: There are far fewer street girls (SGs) than there used to be just a few months ago. And just a few months ago, there were far fewer than there used to be just a few years ago. It must be harder and harder for the chicas to make a living in la Zona since there are far fewer mongers from the U.S. (for all the reasons that have been discussed ad nauseum here and on other boards). There seem to be about the same number of local mongers as I remember from the past few years. For the sake of the chicas, one hopes that the locals will take up some of the slack chica capacity. However, even though there are fewer SGs, there are still plenty for every taste. There are also some young SGs who are simply stunning. If your goal is to bang a trophy, then for $20 (or 200 pesos if you care to save a dollar or two) and the cost of a really scary hotel room (usually $5 or 50 pesos), this can be easily arranged. As has been noted, be careful to negotiate everything before you go arriba. The SGs are skilled at upselling once they have you in the room. By the way, the Grand Dame herself, Guadalupe, the Queen of Upselling, was stationed at her usual locale by the police station and was looking as great as ever. She gave me her trademark smile and I thought, "Okay, I have been away too long. I have to make a bombing run in La Zona next trip south of the border." Also, I noticed a SG who actually does give good service, Miriam. I had not seen her at all last fall so I thought she had retired. She seems to have moved her locale down past the alley entrance to Hong Kong.
The clubs: Hong Kong is pretty much the same as it was a few months ago. It is energetic and loud -- too damned loud for my eardrums, thank you. There are plenty of chicas to choose from. I was not in the market at this time so I did not speak with any of the chicas about pricing. The meseros are as pushy as ever. In contrast, the energy at Adelita's is still in decline. The chicas are still as gorgeous as ever but it does not have as many mongers as it once had, at least on this afternoon, so many of the chicas have a vacant, bored -- one might even say discouraged or despondent -- look on their faces. They built some weird-looking cage thing next to the dance floor. I guess this was done to compete with the "Anything Goes" atmosphere promoted at Hong Kong. Adelita's now has an "Adelita's Store" right across the street. Don't really know why anyone would want to go in. I certainly didn't have any interest in seeing their wares. Chicago Club was as dead as it usually is during the afternoon. I struck up una conversaciูn en enspaูol with a pretty young female mesera. She had a wonderful energy and I was intrigued with her. I finally asked her if she ever went arriba with any of the hombres and at first she said no but then she said, "Well, if he is good looking and kind, maybe." This I took to mean, "I might with you." I asked her when she worked there and I said that I would definitely be back to talk to her again. She has potential. I really do not like the bars as they are just too damned loud for my eardrums, but I have to admit it was there I met my all-time favorite. (Monica! Where are you?!) Maybe with the right amount of finesse, this li'l darlin' mesera could manage to take her place.
The food: I don't know if it was just because I had not been in a while or the competition has gotten stiffer, but the street tacos on this particular day were just fantastic. My two favorite street carts are the one on the corner just down from Chicago Club and the one on the left in front of the chicas who wear the school girl outfits. The one in front of the school girl chicas makes a mean lengua (tongue) taco.
Respectfully submitted,
