Maybe you need to be more detailed in your definition of a sporting event because I would consider the Wimbledon to certainly fit the criteria. Also I would say that the Olympic games and the World Cup soccer would be watched by more people worldwide than the super bowl.

Certainly popularity in regards to participation American Football would not even rate as it is purely a national sport. Things like badminton and volleyball are more popular in this sense.

The Super Bowl is the most watched single sporting event.
Is American Football more popular than what we Americans call soccer? NO! soccer is more popular the world over.
Do more people watch the English Premier Championship game than the Super Bowl? NO!

Yes it did go off the rails a little. However that is what a forum is about the sharing of information and opinions right? And if someone makes a statement that to someone else seems clearly false (ones opinion) then they should have the right of reply.

In regards to somewhere to watch the game they might have it on at the Aussie bar in Bangla Rd. Otherwise unless it is on UBC and you have it in your hotel I cannot think of anywhere else.

It's is a well known fact that soccer is a worldwide game and is watched all over the world, whereas the grid iron game is relatively unknown outside America. This would lead me to suspect that whilst it is viewed by a very high number each year, I think that this only really applies to the USA. I know for a fact that not many people in England watch it, it doesn't even make the TV ratings in the week that it is played.

I would venture that the English FA Cup actually has more viewers and also the Wimbledon Tennis finals as well, but surely this information is available on a website somewhere ??

Good research guys. Maybe you are right that the SB does not compare to such sports as the FA Cup final etc. I will concede that my claim may be wrong. The fact still remains that it is a huge event over in the States. I dont think any BM from the States think that the world revolves around them or that the US is the best. It is just a pretty crazy week for them with all the build up and anticipation.
Give it a watch and see what you think. I know many of my European friends over here in Japan are not at all interested in watching it. But when you put together a bunch of friends, beers, food and a hell of a party it really does not matter what you are watching. I dont care for the soccer or futbol too much but when with some mates it can be a good time.

Get your SB party together and cheer on or laugh at the game. Either way have a blast.

Let's see if this is right you mean out of the what is it 6 billion people in the world 1.5 are going to watch the finals. I don't think that an accurate figure.
There is no way 1.5 will be watching that match.

Also do they have a half time? Can I see Janet Jacksons tit? Even though it's nothing to write home about it's alot better than the half time show the other sports put on.

im a huge american footbal fan, the patriots, the best team, to be exact. when i was in LOS, i was waiting to watch their 1st game that was gonna be on ubc since id been there. it just so happens i have a huge blowout with my old gf. she is calling me the whole time im going back to my room to watch the game that starts at 130am. she tells me if i dont come to her room she will do something bad to herself. i sit there and way both sides, take her serious about her harming herself and go to her room, or go watch the game. in true bastard fashion, make G proud, i shut off my phone and headed to my room to watch the game!
p.s. i do understand that america and some of its people do think that the world revolves around them, but i really get annoyed at some europeans with an inferiority complex that takes malicious shots at me about america in a conversation like this since if you've read any of my posts, and there are plenty, i do not act like america is the greatest, although i love it. so if you feel that your little country is less significant than america and need to vent, dont take it out on me, because i dont disparage other countries

I spent about an hour using google to find a site showing figures, but all I got was that just over 2 billion, that's 2,000,000,000, people watched the 1994 soccer world cup final (in the USA I believe). The only figures I have seen for the Super Bowl is 110 million - woefully short !!

The problem I think, is that you read American websites and assume that when they say "the most watched sporting event" they actually mean in America and not across the world.
