so what is the best way to keep your money and other stuff safe while out? Money belt, hidden pouch, keep in sock? Seems that front pockets would work better than back, but if you have a girl all up on you to begin with you may not notice what is going on.

Side question. My concern when I am out traveling is losing my room key. Whether it be my drunken fault or pick pockets. Do any of you guys leave your room card with the hotel front desk staff when you go out? Then when you return you tell them your room number and they give you back your key. This is what we did in Brazil and it made going to beaches and everything much easier.

Always leave my key with reception and take a card with the hotels address,especially if it`s the first time you`ve stayed there.

I did not find this out till I went over this year (due to the fact of a misplaced room key card) that any card with a magnetic strip I had in my wallet works the power switch for A/C and lights in the room. So we could leave on the A/C and still have a room key each.
This was a godsend as I did not have to troop back to the hotel every night with my GF when she wanted to go home early to let her in the room.
I tried it in all of the three hotels we stayed at in Patong, Surin Beach & Ao Nang and worked in all.

I was always leery about that. Some hotels have a drop box to leave your key when you go out, or even just leave them lying around on a countertop. Too easy for someone to grab a key (while the reception person is busy watching the Thai soaps on TV, 555) and get into your room.

Check out your hotel's key-keeping practices. May be best to keep it on you and just be real careful about not losing it.

Agree with Loop for most hotels, but have also been in Nam Plas situation wherein the key keeping practises look wanting in a busy hotel.
If all yer valuables are in the room safe, then leave the key, no ones gunna steal your nice shirts.. but if its really lax, then take the key with you, front pocket , next to your cash.
I tend to keep my right hand in my pocket a lot, so I prefer there.
