When I saw the title of the thread I thought Ursus was continuing his "I'm attracted to men" theme.

But seriously, Trump has been an awful President, if only for the tone deafness (that's the nicest way to put it), style and content of his efforts to communicate. Even with Covid, he could have easily won this election if he had just had a tiny bit of communication competence, but he is completely inept in that regard...even if his style does appeal to a certain contingent.

But here's the thing, two things can be true at once. He may have been a sorry excuse for a President, but there's no doubt he can point to some significant accomplishments, especially in the area of foreign policy. He will of course, never get credit for those accomplishments because to give him that credit would ruin the prevailing media narrative. He was correct to have terrorist assholes killed. He took the correct approach to China (one that Biden will in all likelihood moderate slightly but continue to follow in essence). He was right in holding NATO members' feet to the fire. He was correct in his approach to middle east, exposing the wrongness of previous approaches and bypassing Palestine to make a separate peace with other Arab nations. He was correct on Syria too, shrewd and cynical, but correct.

On the domestic front he has been good for the economy and his view of America could not have been more different than the one offered by today's Democrats. Today, we are have starkly opposing interpretations of what America is. The Democrats want you to accept that America was rotten from the start, that it is a country that owes its wealth to a basis of slavery, that every disparity we see today between racial groups can be tied directly to racism and that to correct this systemic racism it is necessary to give "racialized" people an advantage in business, employment, arts...basically in every area of life. The opposing view, imperfectly represented by Trump, acknowledges past racism and that early America was hypocritical to its founding beliefs, but has largely rectified that hypocrisy through a civil war, rejection of Jim Crow laws, a civil rights act and a raised consciousness achieved through art and media. Regardless of what Dems tell you, try to define systemic racism for yourself. In what law, in what institution have we enshrined racism? You won't find it, anywhere--except ironically in diversity statements.
