Therapists - why would you want to book with me?

That you listen to my needs and work on the areas that I have tension rather than doing a set routine with lots of effleurage like a lot of therapists do.

When I've gone for massage before, some therapists get all nervous and freak out when I say I'm also a massage therapist - I'm pretty sure I don't do this - I'm always very interested when someone says they are a therapist of some kind.

I think if you mentioned that you could help with back, neck, elbow, wrist problems which are often a problem to therapists due to their profession that would make me think that you could help me and I would go to your over another therapist quite possibly. Perhaps if you mentioned that you understand the pressures and needs of massage therapists too as a fellow therapist yourself.

Definitly a website and competitive prices. flexible times - at times when massage therapists wouldn't be working so for example maybe if you had morning sessions. I see most of my clients in the afternoons and evenings so wouldn't be able to go for a massage at these times and I'm sure other therapists are the same.

I would love to be able to go for a massage and feel relaxed and not be concentrating on the moves and whether I could incorporate them in to my massage or wish you weren't doing them! I think a lot of therapists have this problems and it would be great to get round it some how - not sure how though yet!

I'm quite new (exams next week - eek!), so I'm drawn to people with more qualifications than me who I can learn from! So I'd like someone who didn't mind talking to me about things I have questions about.

But yes, I guess if you had special knowledge of the kind of problems therapists have and had some good advanced-technique recommendations for how to avoid them, that would be useful!

I would want to know what training you've done since your qualifying course in terms of advanced training. For me it would give an indication that you like to improve your skills and lets me know you can do more than a bog standard swedish massage. As already mentioned knowing some of the ailments that effect massage therapists. Earlier this week I was telling a colleague I would love someone to spend 30 minutes massaging just my arms. A massage therapist might be more picky but at the end of the day we are like normal clients. Think about why your current clients choose to come to you or what would make you visit a particular therapist.

Yes, the more qualifications the better. I did a little 3 day course which I really enjoyed so have decided to take the full itec course.

When I massage family and friends (most of them for free) I am always thinking to myself I hope they are actually enjoying the massage and not just 'pretending' to be enjoying it so much ....but then I am a major worrier though!

Do you mean massage therapy?

1.I would book with you because you wear a tigers head to deliver treatments.
2. Bcs you make me feel better at the end of a treatment than I did at the beginning.
3. Bcs you aren't a clock watcher booking clients in back to back on a therapeutic production line.
4. Bcs you LISTEN to clients and REACT to their needs.
5. Bcs you don't charge more than £25-£30 per hour.
6. Bcs although you smoke throughout the session you NEVER drop ash on me.
7. Bcs you are you.
8, Bcs you are flexible in the times you can offer treatment.
9. Bcs every 10th treatment is free.
10. Bcs you are local.

Your initial problem would be to convince me to come through your door, so how are you going to phrase your advertisement to encourage me to come to you, as opposed to going to the other people who provide massage in your area?

Are you massaging people or are you massaging their dysfunctions?

Can you address muscular/skeletal dysfunctions or do you perform relaxation massages or both?

What is your experience in your chosen field and how competent are you?

Would you have a clinical or an holistic approach?

Now putting the correct set of answers together to encourage me to come through your door, is only half the battle.

You now need to give me a massage that will stand out from the crowd, one which will fill me with confidence about your abilities to look after me so I will come back to see you again

Now that you have had quite a lot of responses to your question, I think it is time for you to put down your own ideas and let us see what you have come up with so far!

Paul you have hit the nail on the head, this is the big one for me and I would not go to any therapist who massages my dysfunctions (it would probably wear them out too !)

I will cover some of the important points raised:

Training - agree, I thought that was a requisite of Professional Associations.

Compentency - gained through training, feedback, practice and time.

Flexibility - depends on how popular I might be

Coolhandluke - you are right, I am me (so I have been told!).


Your wish is my command.
