Training/Books on making own aromatherapy products?

I have had a search through the forums and can't seem to find any info on books or training courses for making own aromatherapy products. I have had a search on google and found

who sell reasonably priced info packs, anyone had any experience of them?

I am a qualified aromatherapist with insurance through FHT, I know I can extend insurance to cover selling products but does anyone know off-hand if you have to have taken a course in this?

I have been asked to do an aromatherapy house party which I think is a fab idea that I would never have thought of - food for thought for anyone selling own products esp coming up to Christmas

Hi. My ITEC course contained two days on blending and making our own products and we really did enjoy it.

I do have a book, I think it is by Neal's Yard, in fact I have a couple of books on the subject. Have you done a search on Amazon? They do exist. You might also find that the FHT offer one day workshops in this, they are quite good on that kind of thing. Not sure where you are but I trained at the Middlesex School of Complementary Medicine at Mount Vernon Hospital, Northwood Middlesex and the blending course was offered as a workshop to qualified therapists.

I ordered the instruction sheets from aromantics and they look very good with clear instructions and also supply all the ingredients. I haven'y made any yet though so don't know what they'll turn out like.

I have also had a look on Amazon and there are loads of books with recipes in, in fact I think there was one called something like 'Making Your Own Aromatherapy Creams and Lotions'.

If you make any before me I'd love to hear how you got on !

Thanks all for info. I now have the Frangrant Pharmacy and am planning to try out one of their recipes just as soon as i can get the ingredients together.

I think I might order the aromantic's info pack, esp as you recommend it. They are doing a one day course in London in a couple of weeks I am thinking of going to. Will keep you posted on it

I see you are an aromatherapist, so you will probably notice that Valerie Wormwood's blends are a little on the strong side. I usually use half measure of essential oils in her blends.

Funny you should say that, I have just been reading the book and writing out my shopping list ... and I was very suprised how much e/o she recommended to put in a bath oil. Will def half that as you say. Have you made any of the recipes?

I think you replied to my post under reflexology.. about my first talk? Well in the end i did the aromatherapy talk... went pretty well considering how nervous I was but lots of people were interested in buying oils (I had made up some blends to use as a demo)... and then I was asked to do an aromatherapy house party.... so this is where my idea to make products/blended oils has come from.

Have ordered stuff for recipes on-line with aromantic and will let you know how they go []

Don't forget if you sell-on products that you need to list all the ingredients on the label, including the ingredients in the base products. You also need to have your name address and telephone number on it and warnings about children and pregnancy, high bp etc etc.

I found 500 formulas for aromatherapy by carol and david schiller really helpful, has loads of different things in it..

also there is a course being run in cheshire on blending, it's on the Healthypages training page.. depends how far away you are !

Thanks for all suggestions. I have now been making (and selling!) products using Fragrant Pharmarcy, Natural Beauty Book, Aromantic Starter Pack 1 and a book by Neal's Yard on making own natural beauty products. It is great fun and addictive! Selling lots for Christmas presents at the moment

Natasha, I just wondered how you are getting on with making your products. Did you go on any of the aromantic courses? We covered plenty on blending and making some products when I did my aromatherapy diploma, but wondered if you need to have any other quals legally. Ive got the cosmetic regs, but I do need to check they are up to date.

Any advise you have would be greatly appreciated.
