Trip Report June 24 – July 6
Part 3 of 3 part report.
We arrived at the old airport and grabbed a taxi. The fixed price was 1,400 Bt. Plus tolls. The road south is under a great deal of construction and with the rain and traffic it took about 3 hours to get to Pattaya. The driver spoke no English and had obviously never been to Pattaya before. It was funny pointing when I wanted him to turn having no idea where I was either. Anyway, he finally got a woman on the phone that spoke English and I explained where we wanted to go.
We were dropped off at Soi 6 on Beach Road. Close enough. We walked to my favorite bar in Pattaya; Nick’s on Soi 7. Nick is a great guy and he has comfortable wicker couches and chairs. The girls at Nicks remembered us, and made us feel welcome. I asked about the girl that I had spent 5 days with last year. That was the real reason I wanted to go back to Pattaya. To my disappointment I was told she was married and was living in Holland. Good for her. After 6 Singha each one of the girls asked where we were staying. We pointed across the street at the Flipper House, but said we didn’t have reservations. She offered to run over and set us up. Great (probably got a commission – which is OK with me) and negotiated 880 Bt. per night. Done. It is the third time I have stayed at the Flipper House, and like it. The staff remembered us, the food is OK, the rooms are good, and the pool on the roof is great.
We took a stroll down Walking Street that first night, and found our companions in a beer bar. They stayed with us for 5 nights. He fell in love with his girl; mine was sweet. One night I tried to get her sister to join us for the night, as I have never had sisters before. Opps, I thought they were going to slit my throat right then and there. A smile and a laugh turned a serious proposal into a bad joke. It is scary what I will do when drunk and horny in Thailand!
They hung out at the pool with us during the day, we took them to dinner – basically treated them like girlfriends. We took a day trip to Koh Larn (sp?). They ferry over takes about 45 minutes. We used the beach on the other side of the island, as it was not at all crowded – just a few others on a long beautiful beach. Great food was available out of a rusted tin shack. The boat ride back was too exciting as it poured rain and was windy. There was no visibility and the waves were getting stronger and the boat was overcrowded. My girl was scared to death. Me too.
I think it is best to find your sweetie in a beer bar. Gogos are not for me – way too aggressive. In a beer bar you can get to know your girl playing games, flirting and talking. Spending 5 nights with one girl is dangerous though. I get attached too easily, and the girls really, really get emotional.
Off to Bangkok by taxi, leaving 5 hours before flight time. Damn it is a long flight home.
Thanks for reading.
