SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A massage is supposed to be relaxing, but check before you book that appointment. Sioux Falls street crimes officers went undercover. They checked several massage parlors and found two breaking the law. And it turns out, the names may sound familiar. KELOLAND Investigates has taken you to two of the parlors before.
Sioux Falls police say two massage parlors had workers giving massages, without a license.
"Additionally, one of them did not have a sales tax license and so quite a few people were arrested," Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said.
One of the businesses is the Asian Moonlight Relaxing Center on West 41st Street.
Undercover officers arrested the owner and two employees for practicing massage without a license.
The other business in question is Miracle Massage on South Western Avenue.
"We had two women were found to be providing massage with no license. This one, they were both cited," Clemens said.
Late last year, KELOLAND Investigates showed you a Backpage.com ad for Miracle Massage promoting, "New Chinese girls with new skills, helping you out,"
We also told you about a report on human trafficking in the massage industry and a website called Rub Maps, which listed some erotic massage parlors in South Dakota.
Both Asian Moonlight Relaxing Center and Miracle Massage were listed on that website.
KELOLAND Investigates stopped by the businesses.
Angela Kennecke: Do you have a massage license?
Woman: No massage… oil.
At the time of our investigation, police said they would continue to follow up on complaints and pay surprise visits to the businesses.
We've provided links to our KELOLAND investigates stories on the massage parlors here.
