Some people enjoy a night out with good music, nice sourroundings and interesting people.

Some people enjoy a night out in a seedy place full of brass and don't care about anything else.

I appreciate all forms of dance music from house to hard house but also love a bit of rock, metal and indie. It's always good to enjoy a varied taste in music.

I dj trance predominantly and can say that the trance genre truly does use all the different styles of dance music. Progressive house, tech-trance, techno and uplifting.

I'm hoping to check out some decent clubs while im in town so have to ask again on this thread in mid January as to what's going on.

Had some good choonage in Samui again.. Gecko burnt down and going through a rebuild.. Amazing tek house style remix of "I wanna dance with somebody" musical highlight that I can remember.

Samui very empty still tho..

where do you DJ Trance in Wellington.....was a "Sandwiches" and "Good Luck Club" fan myself when I lived there....not much else going on there apart from the mainstream

BTW not being critical here but Trance + Techno are my least fave dance genres.....but I realise its like a religion to some

DJ's can play music as diverse a sound as iron maiden is to miles davis..

To rule out entire musical genres like that simply as the performance is from vinyl is a shame.

guess i am pretty much the opposite...not many live bands I would go and see anymore...mostly due to costs, the sheer logistics and the size of the auditorium is now usually so big all you see is a spec....in fact I am not so enamoured of big venues at all whether they be with a DJ or live band....I just don't like being in a room with that many people...read 1000s

a good DJ should be able to read the crowd and swing the music to set and enhance the mood...though many of the big names just play their expected set list these days....DJs/producers have become the new music makers in this age of digital technology....that's just the way music is created these days

I seem to recall that Benny Benassi was 300B (including a drink 555). Some of these events would cost 5-10 times as much back in the real world.

800B for NYE?! Bargain. I think my local pub is charging $10 entry on NYE, for the privilege of standing in a queue all night and paying $8-10 for a pint!

On dec 19 th we were at the party at Stereo Lab ... great place and great venue ... but about 1;30 am; military crashed into the party and stopped everything ...

No idea about what happened because we did not stay too long ... as things could have been a bit slow if they checked out everyone ...


All I can say is that the place is great and the audience is a lot different than what u ll find in Bangla ... a lot more like what u d find in hype places in France, Spain or other trendy areas ... I think this could work ... but let s see what happens next !!!!

There aren't many trance parties on here in Wellington these days, I've only been here 8 months but I've managed to play a few parties here, mainly at The Garden Club and Studio 9. There's been a bit of a resurgence in these kind of parties but it has nothing on Auckland which is where most parties run.

Sandwiches is still around but mainly house or drum n bass.

No worries on your choice of tastes, I'm never one to look down upon peoples tastes in music. I love it all really, anything that's well made is good in my book.

I come from London so my trance background has predominantly come from there. Trance per se has the stigma of being uplifting and banging but it ranges from slow down tempo 126 bpm to upwards of 145. I love it all and can really find some nice tunes out there, amongst all the dross haha. I can spend a day searchng thru audiojelly or trackitdown just to find 10 tunes I like. All part of the fun.

Hey, I wasn't putting anyone down, I just didn't see going somewhere and paying to see a DJ.....a talented performer, sure. I think someone can go somewhere with 'good music and nice surroundings', without having to pay to see a dj.
I certainly didn't mean to insult you.

Damaz, I am not a massive beer drinker but I have lost patience with drinking spirits and mixers in LOS. If it is not the pour, the quality of vodka etc is pretty ordinary in far too many places IMO. And a full-bodied robust red wine is nigh on impossible to find anywhere in Soi Eric or Tiger So I stick to the San Migs....

You locals might have a different POV on this.

I agree only place I've had a proper pour is Q bar in BKK with a 45ml pour most places are ok, MTB does a good pour, but last night was a joke really put's me off going back there Foockers!! I don't understand why bars don't use spirit dispensers. High end establishments can't afford to do this they spent at least 60m baht on Sound!!
