Using LMT number in advertising?

I'm in Texas, and I've recently been researching this (including talking with Austin)- maybe I can help.

On the State's web site search, they list my name, license number, status (current, expired, revoked, etc.), and my city and county of residence. Not my home address.

They do list our massage ESTABLISHMENT'S address. (That would be our work address), along with all the other relevant information (license number, expiration, status, each therapist that is registered to work there, etc.).

The reason I have been told that it is not encouraged for us to use a DBA name with our license number is because there are those out there who are, shall we say, NOT licensed massage THERAPISTS. They like to advertise "massage services", and they'll post an ad like "Pinky Bunny offers really nice massages, license #

I figure if someone wants to "stalk" me, they don't need my license number to do so. Not with so many other means of obtaining people's personal information available these days.

Yep. I wouldn't be okay with the state listing my home address on their state licensing website, but the rest is completely legitimate - and helpful to the business, actually. We DO want to be found, just not at home!

Since the law requires my address to be on my email newsletter, and I do outcalls only, I got a post office box. The expense is worth not putting my home address out in emails that can go anywhere. Plus, I am renting right now, so when I move, that address on the emails can stay - one less thing to have to remember to change is a good thing!! I am not one to live in fear of stalkers, but having had one, I am not up for making it easier, either.

The bigger issue here is PRIVACY STRATEGY.

I had a stalker a few years back, and have put into place a lot of steps to protect myself from him and whomever he'd hire to find me. Bear in mind, a Private Investigator can find anyone, given enough of a budget to do so.

Arizona has a great stance on LMT applications for this. Their application gives room to list home, work and other addresses. YOU then decide which one is listed on their researchable online database. Bravo, AZ. Their application is worthy of imitation in all 50 states, in my opinion.

There is NO written record.... ANYWHERE... of where I live. Property ownership (yes, I do own), auto registration and license info, buisness records, nothing. You need to research the strategic use of LLC's, P.O. boxes, and remailing services. Start at Ebay and Amazon .com, search privacy books, and take it from there.

UPDATE

I went to advertise in Outsmart and Houston Health and Fitness magazines; all therapists have taken LMT numbers off. The only time we need to have it present is it needs to be visible while the massage is taking place.
