thanks all...it was a genuine question, I pictured an influx of 5k people causing quite a stir. As pointed out not all would be ashore at once.

And of course, my primary concern was that the price of T-Shirts might go up, not women....that would be crazy!

As an aside I was shown around the Ronald Reagan last time it was in port, couldn't believe how polite everyone was, I had a really good time.

They let people on it? Really, guided tours or what? I'd like to get a gander around it... I was on the USS Intrepid in NYC one time (WWII Carrier), I can only imagine how impressive these Nimitz class ones are.

I have missed the "old days" (being a newcomer here in PI).......as the lads nowadays (In PI), appear to be under strict control & curfews.

Well, I can honestly say that it has affected my holiday, but not really in a big way... just the minor of annoyance of many of the hotels being fully booked in "low season". I had days to play around with, had I known, I'd have moved my time here a little. But only really for the hotels. Where I am staying, I havent seen any sailors, but the price is pretty high.

Otherwise, I've seen plenty of them out & about, some very drunk, but most were somewhat sober. They were typical young men... a little too loud, a little too attention-seeking. But hey, we were all young men once, and likely acted the same. What I've seen is that its a mix just like you'd get with almost anyone... some very decent, well-mannered types... some in the middle that are OK, but get a little mouthier as they get more maow... and then a few that embarrass themselves. But the buddy system often works well in those situations. You rarely see the guys alone... mostly in groups of 2-4. And they tend to make sure any drunken troublemakers (even ones not from their group) are kept in line. Going out into town is a privilege for these guys, not a right. If someone screws that up badly by getting into a fight with cops, or causing any kind of public spectacle, and ALL the guys could lose the right to go off ship. So, out of self-interest, they very much self-police. As such, there's rarely trouble with them.

I saw one pair, pathetically drunk, trying to give dancers 100 baht notes, but they could barely stand. One was worse off than the other, but it was obvious neither was able to take care of themselves. The little hostess gal wanted them to leave, but they kinda brushed her off. I told Nels I was surprised they didnt keep a large Thai doorman for this sort of situation and he told me one could always be summoned if they need it, but they try to work it out amicably first. Eventually the lesser drunk one convinced his friend to leave. Both were seforum.xxxgering. It wasnt pretty. The gals were obviously turned off by them (this was in Rock Hard) and wouldnt even look their way, so the dunks stared reaching up on seforum.xxxe with baht, pawing at them. I felt vaguely uncomfortable... like "this is the kind of thing where one witnesses 4-5 thais jump on a pair of drunken assess"... but as I said, luckily they left.

Beyond that, I got a few "mean mugs" from wanna be tough guys... I tend to get that at times when I'm out. I'm not a small guy and I look like a biker (or ex inmate) so at times I find guys trying to puff their chest out a little and look tough. These are usually the same types that step in to the fight gym and never come back though... their ego cant take the beating they get when they realize all the lifting and all the roids really dont equate to fighting ability. But until they do step in to a fight gym, they will generally walk around thinking they are a serious tough guy. Meh, whatever, dont care. Give me hard looks all ya want, I'm too old for that kind of machismo BS now. But if it goes further than that, It'll probably be an ugly lesson in trained Vs untrained. Everyone can be beaten. I dont push it. An ass whippin dont feel so good. Not in the gym under controlled circumstances and certainly not in a street fight. So, I avoid it. I dont respond. But I do notice getting that "Mean mug" look every now and then- mostly from you military guys. It makes me wonder if I used to do that 15 years ago. Probably so.

I would normally agree with you here Paulie....but WP is right.....this lot is on long shore leave and they are getting drunk and a little loud....still no real bad behaviour that i have witnessed so far...and as WP said they seem to self police....but these aren't the same lilly white boys that we normally see here....they are certainly enjoying there booze
