Actually... my earliest recollection of gas prices was 39 cents a gallon! I was too young to drive back then, but my father (a Dutchman, and therefore frugal to the point of fault), would drive to the other side of our hometown to save that extra .X cents/ gallon... In my hometown growing up, we used to have this discount gas retailer named Beaver... and it always had the best price around- problem is there was only 2 of those stations in our city... So I remember driving to the Beaver with my dad to get gas for $39.9 cents a gallon!
To put that into pespective... 1 Imperial gallon = 4.54609188 liters, so 1 litre of gas would be just under 9 cents, representing about an 1100% difference compared to today's price of about $1.00/ litre!!! (If I've done my math correctly...) :arf:
