Had a guy phoned me up today (think he got my name from the Yellow Pages), asking me about massage. He decided he wanted aromatherapy (although kept mentioning Swedish and I told him I do aromatherapy or holistic).

He then asked me if he would be covered with towels, which I was happy to reassure him that he would. He then went on to say that as it was his first treatment with me, he would be worried 'things might crop up'. Again I professionally told him that this wouldn't be a problem and that the most important thing would be for him to relax. He asked me if I would just ignore it then and I said I would.

I said I could give him the treatment at a particular time and he said he would call me back in five minutes to confirm and never did.

I'm very definitely not bothered that he didn't book the treatment, but now I'm thinking was he trying to suss out whether I would respond to his excitement. Sometimes I think I'm so naive!!

Sounds to me like he was trying to gauge if you were providing 'extras' as some of these seedy little dirty people associate massage purely with sex or sexual innuendos

Did he say that he found your details on the internet? I had a call this morning from a guy who wanted a massage and said he had found my details on the internet. I felt uncomfortable immediately and told him I do not do massage (I'm a reflexologist). I wonder if it was the same guy?

No Juliet, he didn't actually say where he got my details from. I wouldn't have been suspicious if he had got my details from the internet as I'm listed on lots of therapy sites (this one for instance) and have had quite a few referrals. I do give people the benefit of the doubt and am not easily shocked, but I did think that if he would have been embarrassed if something did happen, surely it is more embarrassing to ask the question first.

It just made me think what some people must get up to on a miserable Monday afternoon!!

Well handled, I say. So obviously it would not have been his first massage?... Maybe he is checcking the female therapsits to see which one wil react the way he wants to "pop ups"? Some peopel are weird. But each to his own.

ok, in an effort to think nice things here...
maybe he is very sensitive and gets errect easily.....also maybe he has had a massage before and this has happened and it all went horribly wrong because therapist didnt know what to do or got the wrong idea etc etc so was just making sure it wasnt an issue..

or maybe he was chancing his arm! (or anything else!!!)

I had a call back in June from some guy who I had never heard of and he said he got my number from some other who I haven't heard of either. Anyway, he enquired what I do and so I told him and then he asked if I did extra's. I knew exactly what he was asking but I asked him to explain what he meant by extra's. Anyway, I told him I didn't and thought that was the end of that.

A couple of weeks later he rang again asking the same thing and that time I recognised his voice and told him bluntly that he rang before and I already told him then that I didn't do it.

I hadn't heard from him until a couple of days ago when he rang again. I totally forgot about him as I hadn't heard from him and thought he got the message. This time outright he asked why I didn't do BJ's and that it's a very good money earner. I told him it's not what I do and he kept asking why not? I got so annoyed that I just hung up on him. The worst thing is that he calls on my number from a number that is obviously with held.

Why is some men just don't know what "NO" means?

I think he may well have been after more. Perhaps he thought you wouldn't be able to resist him!!

What persistence Rakhee, it does worry you that they can withold their numbers like that. I suppose you could tell BT if it becomes a nuisance, as they can trace any number I think.

I had a 'funny/dodgy call' last week from a man who asked about treatments, how much etc. I asked if if he had a specific problem or was it for stress relief (not good phrasing in hindsight) and he actually said '"there is a sexual element to it" straight out.

"OOOerr" said I, "you need a different kind of therapist for that", think he must be a foot fetish type.he sounded so nice as well, and until he came straight out with it, I hadn't thought he was after that. Still at least he was honest.
Also he could expect to pay a lot more than that for those services.

He calls me on the mobile - I used to get nuisance calls on the mobile some time ago and when I called T-Mobile abt it they said they couldn't do anything and that the only way to stop them was to change my number. I can't do that as I have had the number for about 8 years now and so many ppl have it. Plus I have used it on my business cards as well.

I might start tracking the calls and maybe go to the police or something like that otherwise I will just hang up everytime he calls - easiest option even though it's rude but I don't want his custom and don't think I'll lose any other custom either.

If he continues to be a pain, just log the time and date of the call so that if you go to the police they can work with something.......even if you hang up.

i had a chap call some weeks back for reflexology but he kept saying how he liked massage, a bit of pampering and was reflexology like that.

i decided to say no! i explained how therapeutic it was, so much more so than massage and it was not like massage at all. he said he'd call me back to make an appointment and he didnt.

so i dunno... there was something in the way he went on about pampering...

What I don't understand is that the local papers are full of ads offering the other sort of massage with extras, so why would they call us? or perhaps they just think all massage is like that [&:]

Do you think that basically they are not brave enough to call an actual sex pro from those ads.

Its probably tied up to fantasy, if they really wanted those services they are readily available,as you say.

They may find the prospect of the worldly wise 'pro' more frightening than us as they would then be facing a'reality', which they would not go through with.

It could also be part of the 'phone pest perve' thing, as they retain their anonymity, and enjoy winding us up. I wonder if they would end up hanging up if we went along with it a bit, but I'm not prepared to try it. Anyway its not so much of a problem for reflex, they mostly go for massage, it seems. Swedish massage seems to attract this more, unfortunate connotations perhap.

We should ask one of the psychotherapist on here.

Rakhee, have you got a man around. Perhaps you could pass him the phone next time. I bet the pest is a real little weed, and if a man told him where to get off it might work. Picture him as a slug next time and he wont unnerve you, and you might laugh at him.
