QUOTE=Cn Explorer]Macau Airport to Zhuhai:
After clearing customs, I headed to the row of travel booths to book a hotel room and was quoted RMB700 for a big room/Da Fang at the Zhuhai Holiday Inn. The travel booth staff then told me that it would be cheaper to book at a travel agency in Zhuhai. Out of goodwill, I bought a shuttle ticket from them at RMB 25. Waiting time was about 5 minutes before the shuttle had enough passengers to leave for the border crossing.
Alternatively, one can take the โAP1โ public bus or a taxi.
Zhuhai Hotels:
After crossing the border, it was a short walk to the underground mall, many travel agencies there. I followed the directions to Jin Ye hotel and stumbled into the โZhuhai Travel Agencyโ, was quoted RMB500+ for a small room and RMB660 for a big room at the Holiday Inn (all inclusive weekday rates). One can also book directly at the hotel but I checked out four hotels and the travel agency always had better rates. BTW, the hotels didnโt have any problems with me previewing the rooms before booking.
If you book the hotel room in-person at the travel agency, they will usually ask you to pay cash in advance. But I found this arrangement to be less than ideal as the receipt is issued by the travel agency and not the hotel (talk about consumer rights). It turns out that you can book through the travel agency and get the discounted rates but pay the travel agency via the hotel in cash or by credit card.
Based on my limited mandarin, I believe this is how they group their rooms:
a) Small Room with twin beds / Xiao Fang
b) Big Room with king bed / Da Fang
c) Suite / Tao Fang
Holiday Inn Hotel / Jia Re Jiu Dian โ My favorite hotel; the big room comes with a king bed and sofa. Nice dรฉcor and everything looks new. But do book in advance, I stayed one night and then found that I couldnโt extend as it was fully booked for the rest of the week.
International Hotel / Guo Hui Jiu Dian โ Big convention hotel, felt somewhat old and impersonal. Got a Hao Hua Da Fang/ Grand Big Room (a cross between a suite and big room) with a nice sea view for RMB 700/night (weekend rate, RMB600/night for weekdays). The room was really quite big with a king sized bed and 3-piece sofa set but the soundproofing needs work; could hear people talking as they walked by, guess they could hear me at night too, LOL.
Wang Fu KTV:
I spent most of my time at Wang Fu KTV; think they call KTVs, โJu Le Buโ in Zhuhai. Wang Fu KTV is located in the row of buildings next to the Bank of China building and Yindo Hotel. Wish I had more time, would have checked out the Sunshine KTV at Holiday Inn and the one at Du Jia Chun.
System โ Thereโs a mamasan or assistant mamasan who attends to you and brings the ladies. Think there are several teams of ladies here, each headed by a mamasan and 2-3 assistant mamasan. The assistant mamasan who attended to me would always push for her team first but was quite good about bringing the other teamsโ ladies when I wanted to see more. Still, I couldnโt be sure that she was showing me the best from the other teams. Apart from the mamasan, thereโs also a waiter or waitress but donโt recall a DJ as mentioned in the Changping KTV reports.
Ladies โ The selection here is only passable but there are gems to be found; took me quite a few line-ups but found three ladies (ratings: 7, 7.5 & 8) who were all quite GFE including one hot pixie with whom I spent a few days. I wonโt be naming these ladies for personal reasons except for Fang Fang from Hunan whom I rated a 7; kinda flat-chested but quite pretty and innocent looking, very GFE if you treat her right. There was also this girl whom I quite liked but didnโt have enough time to take out, think her name is Yan Zhi from Guangxi; a bit skinny but really fun once you ply her with alcohol.
Cost โ About RMB500 for a small room (forgot the exact sum). RMB200 for a lady to sit with you and RMB1000 (includes the RMB200) for overnight till 12 noon the next day. If you like the lady, you can extend for another day for RMB1000 (can probably negotiate but keep in mind that the KTV ladies have to pay RMB300 to their mamasan if they donโt turn up for work). The room charges can be put on the credit card at no extra cost but for the overnight fee, additional RMB100 surcharge for credit cards. BTW, the credit card statement will indicate โWang Fu Nightclubโ.
Tipping โ Iโve never been sure about how much to tip the mamasans, I suppose it differs depending on the city. My standard tip was RMB300 to the mamasan and RMB50 for the waiter. Perhaps the more experienced mongers could shed some light on this.
Conclusion โ Not a bad KTV but I really was expecting a better selection of ladies. Having spent several days going thru multiple line-ups at Wang Fu, I have to say that the quality is only marginally better compared to Lian Hua Lu.
This trip to Zhuhai has truly opened my eyes to the exciting mongering possibilities in China. Iโm keener on exploring the KTV scene and will be headed to either Changping or Houjie on my next trip. Quite a tough call with contrary reports on several boards, Changping seems to be the more popular destination but Houjie reputedly has the best looking ladies. Iโm more focused on quality rather than quantity so it does seem that Houjie might be the better fit. I would greatly appreciate input on this.[/QUOTE]
