1AM closure... Patong or rest of Island 12 ??

Well in Soi Tiger tonight the fun police came round and made it clear that it was 1 AM closure as of now... Also they stressed it WAS a real rather than paper notification.. A new arrival had just bought a Tiger bar and his opening night is Wed.. Great news for him.. Can anyone confirm the whole Island being a 'special entertainment zone' or only Patong ???

With Pian being back in as Patongs Mayor and his envolvement in so many places (Easy / Dragon / Katoey) I cant see him wishing to implement this.

Heard more than one person (bar owner) talking about Philippines if 12 / 1 AM closure is reality for a long time.

I hope so, too. 1am bad joke. Drinking on the street or in the hotel is not the same as in a bar/disco.

According to ThaiVisa it started getting real in BKK over the weekend..

As yet its only 1.30 AM in Patong so tomorrow we will know if they even took tonight seriously..

With Pian being the new Mayor of Patong and his own nightlife biz interests I just cant see it happening for long.

Well.
Im not just going there for the bars, but i like to have the option to stay out drinking until at least 02....
But it will not affect my trips to LOS. I will never stop going until i find a better place. And i dont think i will....(Never say never...)

But there are lots of other opportunities like a karaokebar where you can have a beer,Sangsom and some dried fish..(Mike... )

So i dont worry to much for my own sake, i am more concerned about guys like Nicke,Stevem and Geespot that runs business down there.
Hopefully they will be able to run business as usual, maybe just a little earlier..

And during my years here I have seen Patong go from being a place where gogo's were naked naughtyness and bars were open till the sun came up.. To 2 O'clock licences and prefered bars and payoff joints having limited special priviledges... And now to this..



I said I saw the papers clearly stating this and the fact it is now written up in the 'Royal Gazette' (eg it has a regal stamp of approval) simply makes it harder to shirk..

Once again though, Pian is now Patings Mayor again.. Pian has just made a major investment (so I am lead to believe) into a group that have bought a very major soi out from underneath people who have leases that will not be honoured (expect to hear a lot about this before Christmas) they are just about to find out the money they have paid in key deposit is not going to be worth anything !!! As well as the Dragon, and many other venues around town.. Pian has no desire to see Patongs tourism fade as his own fortune is directly linked to it..

My guess is within 2 months this will no longer be strict but that 2 - 3 closing will be the norm and the last hour or so will be subtle.. Personally I dont want to have to dig around to find a lock in.. A Party town like Patong survives on its nightlife.. Angelese City / Manila / Phom Phen here we come..

Over the last 3 weeks there were very high ranking government officials marching up and down Bangla road with many security police in tow and some with cameras and video cameras. They were entering bars and discos and photgraphing patrons, BG's and owners, not at all good!!!!

Before this happened everyone was very happy, including the police, bars on bangla were still open at 4am and some discos were bouncing away at 6.30am

There have been meetings at the town hall regarding closing times, but the talk was about trying to get patong open until 3am from 2am and certainly no talk about 1am. I was with a senior manager from Tiger who seems to know the inside track

I was in Nana Plaza about 1 month ago, I am told reliably that Nana is not an official entertainment zone, it was closing at 1am when I was there.

This is Thailand and you can never be sure wht is really the case, but I hope the early closing for phuket was to show central government officials what good little soldiers the local phuket gov are!!!

I guess there will always be places to go after 1 o`clock. But its a shame that they are doing this. I dont think Patong ever can be a familybeach, so there will allways be room for us partypeople.

Anyone know how the laws are working on this issue in Cambodia?
Mybe its time to build a new paradise there?


Hopefully LivinLos is right, and the closingtimes in Patong will be like before in a few months..

Reports I'm hearing lately is that Nana and Cowboy are now being closed at midnight. If later closing is eventually allowed in Patong, I envisage problems being made from other areas that can't close later. Only time will tell.

And 1 AM is for special zones... its midnight for places outside of the zones (eg Nana / Cowboy etc)...

Last time I was in Pattaya the bars would turn their lights out at a certain time, but then they would continue to serve beers so long as you wanted to sit there. I'm usually not too much of a late night person, but one morning I got up sort of early for breakfast, around 6AM, and there were still some people in the bars, playing pool, etc.

Today police come and closed the bars at 1.45 in Soi Eric, we are told the 01 closing time will be effective from tomorrow.

But as I said before, they never enforced the closing time for long in the past and I hardly believe they will do this time either, especiellay when everybody including the governor want to see later closing time.

There are meetings in Bangkok soon regarding the issue for Phuket and if that dont help, there will be protest meetings next week on Thursday.

LivInLos, I dont heard any rumours about Pian but I heard some investors were interested to buy out Soi Crocodile and some neighbouring sois to make their own development. But the price seems to high to buy out everybody so I doubt this will happen.
