There's been no news about the strike in ireland but i read today about 80+ people being killed in the south which is not good for tourism in los no:

Being a chicken I would be most worried about the bird flu, but seeing the death toll amongst people (approx 15) in Thailand this year I wouldn't be bothered about traveling to LOS.

AND THE SHOWDOWN BEGINS
As JW predicted, Patong is holding up both middle fingers to Chin Shin on the 26th October in a bold way: we're closing our bars, even our restaurants, for an unannounced period of time. If you know anyone coming over here, tell them to email the people below and call their travel agents to complain. Contact TAT with your complaint and your feelings about a resort destination shutting down at 1:am nightly. Contact Phuket's Governor (the man with the final say - the man with no balls, dangling at the end of Shit Chin Shin's puppet strings) with your complaint. Now you have a chance to get off your proverbial "keyboard" and DO something about your future holidays in Thailand!! Lots of festivities are planned for this closure. Among them will be street parties and intermittent blockages of the Patong Beach Road, Bangla Road and 200 Year Road by hundreds of bikini-clad girls (too many for the plod to arrest). Mass protests will be held daily outside the Governor's office - embarrassing the Hell out of that puppet *****. Beware - Strike-breakers will have their bars attacked with baseball bats. Reminds us of the old saying: "Don't **** with the locals"...

But if this would be so hectic in Patong, will it be somewhere else! Maybe some areas will benefit of this strike, like Karon and Kata!

Now honestely, I hope things will figure out! You all made some investement, the girls have to live on that, so this situation has to gone better!

Guys, well done for taking a stance on the crazy closing hours.

Wasnt looking forward to having to bring my 'going out time' forward from the usual 11-12pm! Hopefully by the time I arrive on the 2nd of Dec it will all be sorted and Ill be free to take my time with the ladies

I sent an email to the governor myself expressing my concerns!

Well done anyway - cya all in a few weeks where I will gladly buy ya a celebratary drink - which we can down in the early hours of the morning!

Well, this really sucks balls. I've been looking forward to my first trip to Phuket in early Nov. Already paid for plane ticket from BKK, and deposit on hotel in Patong. Anybody know of a good hotel in Pattaya if this is still going on in November? Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and a compromise can be reached.

Myself & 5 mates are staying in Patong from 23th Oct for 2 weeks. Ive been looking at all the BM's posts for the past month & its been making my mouth water in anticipation!!!....this bar closure is goin to disrupt our partying severely!!! But I do appreciate why you bar owners are striking - 1am shutdown is bull****!!

as the strikes are goin to be pretty much central to balgla rd does anyone have any ideas on where we can party from 26th onwards?!?!?! cheers

i was talking to my ex-gf and she was happy about the closing. i actually think that in most cases a bg will probably get a long term customer out of this and make out in the end. just my opinion. and thats justa short-term view, which is all they think about anyway

Got a memo last night asking to show support on 26th October

People are asking what our opinions are? We understand the political issues and the practicality of strikes. This whole agenda is being driven by Thai people not farang business owners. I reckon at the moment we are keeping our thoughts to ourselves, as being a farang in LOS can be precarious business wise.

Am I worried, no not yet!!!

I wouldn't worry too much, as there are literally hundreds of places in Patong and Phuket in general, to drink and have some fun. Only 50 'business owners' attended the meeting where there was a decision to take action.

Some places might be closed come Oct. 26th, but I am guessing close to a majority of them will remain open.

BTW, I fully support the business owner's actions to protest the govt's ridiculous policies.

I havent seen any press releases by the Bar Girls Association or Freelancers Union saying that they plan to go on strike, so mongers are still safe! (joking)

I think the opposite is true - If I know all the bars are shutting at 1:00am I will not BF a girl because I know I only have to wait a few hours and she will be FL'ing outside Tai Pan.

I save money on the BF and on her Fee as she has got no plan and has to compete with every other unbooked BG in Patong.

I don't think they will just go home with their tails between their legs at closing time - They are there to make money after all.

So for me who drinks too much and likes to save on baht the earlier closing times are better - the people that will suffer are the bars and the bar girls.

Yes, something had to be done. A mass closing of bars will certainly bring the issue to the attention of the government and indeed the international press.

I am not one for bars open all night all over the island, but I believe that Patong should be considerd an entertainment zone with adults being able to drink in peace there until at least 0400 hrs.

It will probably only be for 1 night, like 4 years ago. Too many owners will loose interest if it is any longer, as most are running very close to the border line.

Aparently the belief is that Patong has a major drug problem, and this is what they are intent on fixing. I'm yet to see any evidence of this problem.

Understood, as someone with no biz interests its easy for me to theorize or say my point of view publically cause it makes not one bit of difference what I think.

I do know of some non Bangla places that have already told me they have no intention of closing but perhaps they will get with the program when the day comes.. I think the bars will have a lot more support if they do organize some form of street party etc to compensate for the closure of the bars.

I for one am waiting to see the bikini road blocks.. Gotta make sure I clear my phone of old pics to give it some space for that

All these early closing times must be causing alot of bar owners alot of financial pain. The profits from working a bar must be getting razor thin
