Cheap Charlie me hell no. I spent way too much on drinks this last tour. I do not tend to ring the bell at MTB cos theres no cap, but I do buy the staff drinks... many times in fact when Ead is all over asking . I then took them to Love Bar and bought drinks there. Ringing the bell at Love Bar can be fun, and within anyones price range. Like IJ I just buy for the lads I know usually.

Cheap charlie... it depends of the people income, as nobody have the same income and amount of money, and as i don t get a lot of, i will not spend a lot of!

What should i say front of someone spending 160 € every night at bar?
That i m a cheap charlie?
Maybe this guy is earning 5 times maybe more than i earn!

I think that spending more than 100 € at bar only is crazy (for me)
even 50 € is far enough i think.

I would say for a night i would spend only 15 - 25 € maximum at bar, according that i m a small drinker.

It depends also if you go everyday at bar or not.

If i go to bar 1 or 2 times per week, would spend double (maybe).

But i don t like to stay on the same bar/place all the day!

I don't think i could accept a free drink if i know nobody in the bar!
(but if i did use all my money, and so try to get some drinks there and there...:blah: ).

And i would feel like i would have to ring the bell too !!

I don't like to be in a position that "i have to" do something for someone.

Everything will depend of my current state of mood.

When i am in Patong for holiday i i use to spend approx 6-7000thb pr day and it´s only spending money..But this time i will be staying for 6 months and i need to have budget to stick to, otherwice it would be a very very expencive 6 months ....I have a budget on 100K pr month (i have x-tra for emergency,hospital,dentist ect) and i hope that after the first month or 2 i will be able to control myself and take it easy and have some quiet nights maybe only get drunk 3 nights a week and the rest of the days just have a few beers in the night..But lets see when i arrive because it´s easy to sit back home and make plans,another thing is to be in Patong and then stick to the plan :biggrinlo ...

I THINK WE HAVE AN IMPOSTER ON OUR HANDS BOYS!:what: on the subject however , remember what our cheap charlie does for a living....HE SELLS TIME SHARES (and wastes peoples valuable sanuk time)..Mai Chob .Are these specimens not lower on the food chain than litigation lawyers? I would say this re drinks, buy the lady one while your at any bar, you would offer at home if your sitting with one (something I try to avoid in Farangland but sometimes unavoidable).I dont see the bell as anything more than a bar revenue raiser and wont ring it for the same reason as IJ.Tip according to service.As an australian I feel no other compunctions as here there are no tips required anywhere here...

my first trip i rung the bell more than enough...too much in fact,spent way over my budget..this trip id go into my gf bar and buy all the girls drink first night and last night(there was maybe 15-20 of them),id be playing connect 4 for shots of tequila which they nearly always won..anyway we paid for one of the girls to go home(20 hr drive there and back)and bring down her son for his 9th birthday..we paid for all the food and decoration of the bar.The girl was crying she was so touched...spent maybe 10000-12000 on the party between me and mate but made his and her day... .when im on my holidays i burn money till its gone..i dont think im cheap charlie.....

I do not ring the bell now only because I live here and come down town too often, I will on say my birthday, or to celebrate something or if a small group and we get into bell ringing, then to give back to the original bell ringer. When I was holidaying here, I always rang the bell on my first and last night and sporadically during my stay as the mood and occasion fitted. Personally I prefer the limited cost of say 1000baht as a few times I have had and also have seen bell rings top the 4000, I was in MTB one night with a really great aussie guy called Dane think his board name was Mister3D and he copped a 5500 bell ring on the same night he lost 800 bahts betting me on the extreme wrestling, heavy night as this was early on.

Getting back to the thread, I sort of understand the guy down on his luck and although cannot agree with his actions, sort of understand them.

I most dislike 'that' guy and we all know one, that comes out drinking with you and your mates reguarly, always buys the last round or none at all and always bugs everyone else when it is their turn. Personally I would rather buy the first one as I'm more embarrassed by not getting my round in than perhaps getting in more than my share.

IMHO the novelty will wear off, especially if you do the same/similar thing every night. I wouldn't worry too much about your budget Jes, 100,000 baht a month, i'm assuming this is for accom as well. So minus approx 15 - 25 k a month leaves you with on a high 85,000 and low of 75,000 baht a month. Which is quite a lot if you don't intend to PARTY!!!! ever night. If its not inclusive of accom then you should be set. In your first two months you might go over your budget, but the next 4 shouldn't be as bad as you'll know where and how to eat for real cheap and if you really do go out everynight for 2 months, you'll probably need a month to recover 55555

Well let me tell you the owner ringing the bell; if u take me as an example of why I did it

Its bloody good fun as a bar owner and it usually means the owner is well on the way to getting pissed
Its great customer service for not a huge amount of cost
If the girls get a free shooter once in a while it helps to keep them happy and motivated and of course drunk, which is good for them to be able to put up with the old ugly farangs
Lastly and way down the list from my perspective, it encourages customers to partake in some bell ringing or keep them there if it looks like they might be thinking of leaving

Alex i have booked my accomodation already,and it´s 13.000thb the first 2 months and then 15.000thb the last 4 months becasue of high/peak season and it incl electric,cable-tv and internet.
So i hope that i can stick to my budget.I have been to LOS many times so it´s not like i have to learn how to get my way around with cheap food ect..And yes if i drink alot then i need to recover thats for sure because if i drink for many days then i really get sick and need some days of so i guess that my budget will be fine..See you next month.

I don't consider myself a cheap charlie....but, I just can't see paying for someone elses drink!

We're all grownup here (supposedly)...bring enough cash to take care of your own business...and let otheres take care of theirs!!!

Sometimes I tip...sometimes I don't.

Besides buying drinks to the ladies and staff, I always ring the MTB bell at least once doing my trip to Phuket - it's kind of a principple to me. It's like saying thanks to everyone there for the good company and all the drinks I'm getting myself from all the other bell ringers.

But I would love to see that Nicke made a cap on the price for ringing the bells, maybe not as low as on Love Bar, but some good amount that would match the otherwise low prices for drinks at MTB. I think that would make a lot more people ring the bell!

Most of the times when I go to MTB, I always plan to stay only for a few beers, but often ends staying for at least 2-3 hours. The good company there of cause is one reason, but also the fact that I quickly get so many shots that I simply forget my plans to move on!!
