Different % for different clients

One of my MT's asked me yesterday. If they brought in their own clients do they get a different % for that client vs. a client coming in from my marketing.

Many moons ago when I was working for someone else we tried this and it turned out to be a big head ache. As time went on is was getting challenging keeping tabs on who brought in who.

And the way my contract in written is the more clients you see in a week your commission rate goes up. But this MT has no interest in see no more than 10 clients a week, there for as the contract is written their commission won't change.

So do I bend and stir away from my written contract, or stick to my first plan. And for those of you who have a multi therapist business do you have a different % for different clients and if you do how is that working for you? Or is this idea not reasonable in the long run?

What I do is charge a room rental fee and product fee and they cannot book the room during peak hours. They deal with taking money from the client, booking the client, etc and just pay me for the rental fee.

If your business becomes so busy that you can't spare the room at any time, then you can say no. If you do decide to go with something like this, write into the contract that it can change at any time. But while you're still building your clientele and you could use the revenue of renting out the room, why not?

I say make it as easy as possible on yourself. Be fair, but don't make things too complicated.

If you make it too complicated you'll run yourself ragged trying to keep up with the other MT's business instead of your own.

You probably need to do a straight rental fee or else things will get messy.

On our patient form it asks the patient "who referred you here or how did you learn of our office?" I keep track of this statistic. 99% of the time when it comes time to re-negotiate a contract the therapist will say "I bring you so much business". More often than not the client will write - internet, drive-by, business card, other client etc.

There is no doubt that a quality therapist can indirectly (sometime directly) bring in business through quality work. But in my experience when a therapist does a rental agreement they get burned pretty hard if the clinic owner prices the rent properly.

in general, exceptions to rules cause headaches and complications.

in specific, DANGER WILL ROBINSON. This MT knows how to make more $$ on ALL clients -- see more of them, but they don't want to do that. They want to make more $$ on select clients. Before long, some random, one-time client will become a SELECT referral client at the higher %.

keep it simple. One set of rules for all involved.
